________________ NAGARAJAIAH : VIKRAMĀDITYA VI AND JAINISM 43 43.1 The Jaina temple at Tambūru, tall like a mansion, caused by mahāmandalesvara Hākiballadeva, husband of Padmaladevi who was the elder sister of Jayakesi-II (1126-47), mahāmandalesvara of GoaKadamba. 155 Jayakesi's crown-queen Mailaladevi was the daughter of the Cālukya sovereign Vikramāditya-VI.156 When Jayakesi was ruling Konkana-900 and Palasige-1200, Hākiballadeva built the Jinālaya for the merit of his father Māvulideva, which was endowed with several gifts from his two ministers, Barmacayya and Rācamalla and the guild of merchants. This Jinālaya had the cognomen of 'Padmaladevi Jinālaya' named after the sister of Jayakesi and wife of Hākiballadeva. The inscription has recorded the genealogy of the Sūrastha-gana line of teachers. 157 43.2 Mailadevi was the daughter of Vikramādityadeva-VI, from his wife Malayavatidevi. Mailaladevi and her husband Jayakesi-II had two sons, Permmādideva (1147-87) and Vijayadeva, who caused a Jinālaya.159 With this information, it is learnt that Vikramādityadeva and three of his queens, along with his daughter and grand sons have all extended their support for the sustainence of Jaina faith. 44.1 Ādaki was another important seat of Jainism where Kopparasa alias Koppadeva dandanātha the lord of Ādakki caused a basadi for Arhat Pārsvadeva, which was named after him as KoppaJinālaya. 160 He also gave endowments of a garden, lands under the tank of Brahmadeva (a jaina yakşa) and a shop for the special worship on the occasion of greater festivals like jivadayāştami and Nandiśvarāştami. The other merchants of the town gave certain gifts to basadis. The Cenna-Parsvadeva Jinālaya to the south of Ādaki continued to be supported by a number of gifts. 161 45.1 Bammisetti of the Virabalañjiga community, who had caused a Jina-Pārsva basadi at Gangāpura, as referred earlier in Para number, 42.1, had also constructed another basadi at Gollathaguļi, a village 154.
