Pravin Shah is preparing a website for JAINA, he will have it ready in three months. He is preparing for a teachers workshop during Thanksgiving weekend. Jain Center of Southern California will organize US delegation of Doctors for Bidada Medical camp from January 5 to 25. Devendra Peer presented a report on the preparation for 1999 Convention. He along with 2 other members of Convention Planning Board had planned to go to Toronto on 18th July to meet with Mr. Khamesra and others to discuss planning matters. He expects the Board will soon announce selection of the convention site. A committee to plan 2600th Birth Anniversary celebration of Lord Mahavir in year 2001 was appointed under the chairmanship of Dr. Manoj Dharamsi. This celebration will be coordinated with worldwide events. JAINA may publish and distribute a book of Mahavir's message to every Jain family in North America. 6 Regional seminars are also planned. INTERNATIONAL NEWS Jain Monk Passes Away Acharya Sri Vijay Rajtilak Suriji Maharaj passed away in Ahmedabad on August 12, 1998. Acharyaji was a great tapsavi. He had done 100+100+79 aymbill auli at a time. That's equivalant to 13,260 aymbills. Out of which he has done 6800 days of chauviar aymbill. He used to keep maunvrat for long stretches at a time. Saman Sthitpragya and Saman Siddhpragya, disciples of Anuvrat Anushastha Acharya Shri Mahapragya, completed a successful three-months tour of Thailand, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. At the Bangkok University in Thailand, Samans spoke about the relevance of Anuvrat and the Practice of Preksha Meditation. In Manila, Philippines, they delivered a lecture at Indo-Phil (Birla Group) on Stress Management and provided information on the 50-Years Golden Celebration of the Anuvrat Movement. Various programs on Non-violence, Ecology, Jain Lifestyle, and Practice of Science of Living were presented in Australia at Victoria Immigration Detention Center, Victoria Multicultural Commission, and the Melbourne University. Over 40,000 Indians were exposed 1999 Convention Highlights... The Marriage Information Service of JAINA will organize a young adult's "Get Together" during the Tenth Biennial JAINA Convention. The purpose of this program is for young adults 21 and above to meet, acquaint, get to know each othe, and make new friends. MIS is contemplating to serve candidates and their parents. If possible, a compiled data of all candidates will be given out in advance. Please watch for the December issue of JAIN DIGEST for more details on this and other information on Convention 99. 6/JAIN DIGEST FALL 1998 Jain Education International 2010_02 JAINA has undertaken a project to publish a directory of Jain Centers in USA and Canada. The directory will include, for each Jain Center, a brief history, past activities and future. plans, photographs of temples and other pertinent information. The directory will be published prior to the 1999 convention. Jain Samans Visit Thailand, Philippines, Australia and New Zeland Animal Rights International In 1985 a movement was started in the US to observe March 20 as Meat Out Day. The movement has become a world phenomena and accordingly Animal Rights International of Delhi took up a program to have four elephants going around the city. Elephants were chosen specially to signify that vegetarians can be mighty. to the message of Anuvrat and Preksha Meditation when the Samans were interviewed on the radio in Sydney. The topics of Indian Culture, Jain Philosophy, and Physical, Mental and Spiritual Health were addressed at various institutions in Auckland, New Zealand. Additionally, Samans had the opportunity to provide information about the significant contributions of Gurudev Shri Tulsi benefiting the mankind. Gurudev Shri Tulsi established the Jain Visva Bharati Institution and the Order of the Samans.
