A two-hour session on "Roles and Responsibilities of Pathshala Coordinators" chaired by Sailes Jain discussed various topics including curriculum, staffing, communication, extra curricular activities and others as important elements for a successful Pathshala program. Planning for the expansion of the Jain Center is well under way and the facilities will include a religious complex with Derasar and Gyan Mandir (JAINA National Library), a cultural complex with a large meeting hall, the wooden replica of the Palitana temple, a museum and underground parking, and an Atma Sadhana Kendra complex for Swadhaya and Pathshala activities. Bombay will be with JCNC during the month of July to present a series of lectures for one week. Paryushan Parva is scheduled to be celebrated from August 19 to 26 and will conclude with a Samuh Parna on August 27. Das Lakshana Parva will be celebrated from August 27 to September 5. Tapasvi bahuman is scheduled for September 12 and the Mahavir Nirvana will be celebrated on October 24. Jain Los Angeles, CA Jain Center of Southern California (CSC) celebrated the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Jain Bhavan on Sunday, July 12. Following the Dhwaj ceremony, the Siddhachakra Pujan was performed by Dharmanuragi Narendrabhai along with his wife Damayantiben, his son Kaivan, Krishnakant Somani (musician), Gangaram Gajjar (benjomaster), and Devidas Vyas (tabla). Sadhvi Shilapiji of Veerayaran, a popular, admired dignitary amongst youths, visited JCSCon July 6 and 7. Pujya Atmanandaji (Dr. Soneji) presented a series of lectures from July 21 to August 2 and conducted shibirs for adults and children. Pujya Sunandaben will be at JCSC from August 7 to 14. Paryushan Parva will be celebrated under the direction of Gurudev Chitrabhanuji from August 19 to 27, and the Dashlaxna Parva from Au- gust 27 to September 5 will be guided by Pandit Dhirajlal Mehta. Jain Center Youth Council (JCYC) celebrated the completion of the 1997-1998 Pathshala program on Sunday, June 21. Students who had done well throughout the year and the final test were awarded gift certificates. Largest number of entries, 101 out of a total of 123, in the 1998 JAINA National Essay Competition were submit ted by JCYC which were also judged locally by Satin Sheth, Biren Mehta, Mona Vadecha and Seema Mehta. First place local winners in various age groups included Neil Solanki (8-10 years), Michelle Gandhi (11-12 years), Bansari Shah (13-14 years) and Maulik Shah (15 years and over).
