It was during this time the last king of the Hoysala dynasty, Bittivardhana, had raised Jain art, culture, and religion to its full prominence. His queen Shantala was the name of the whole country for what she stood for and what she did for her subjects in the whole fabric of the nation. She built numerous Jain temples; she professed her Jain faith to the fullest extent and supported all the cultural values, literature and the art. Bittivardhana, by change of faith, became Vishnuvardhana, but Queen Shantala never ceased practising Jain faith until her last breath. The queen popularly known as Shantala among the people of yesterday, and even today, still lives in the hearts of all the people in Karnatak for her dedication and contribution to the art, culture and religion. Now, Shantala will be brought back to life on the screen, in colour, and in cinemascope, by the acclaimed and authoritative film producer-writer-actordirector, Mr. G. V. Iyer.
