ACHARYA GNANA SAGAR VOW OF SALLEKHANAKH
Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. August 7th. Acharya Gnana Sagar, 96 years old, took the vow of sallekhanak and relinquished all food, including water, on August 3rd and on August 7th. Acharya left this world when thousands of people flocked to pay their respect. Jain merchants of the city closed their businesses on the day in display of respect to the Acharya.
SHODASHA POOJA
Dhadiga, Karnatak. September 15th. This hamlet of Jain prominence in Mandya district celebrated Shodash Pooja from August 31st to September 30th, at the temple of Lord Anant, the 12th Tirthankara. Reading of Shodasha Bhavana, Ratnakarandaka Achara and Jain Siddhanta Sara Sangraha were daily performed. The flower chariot procession of Tirthankara Anant was a big event held on the 6th and it attracted devotees from far and wide within the state.
