It is to be protected with great care, caution and effort. For protections from fire, mass, if not all, at least precious and rare mass should be kept in a fire proof Mass or safes. It is a matter of gratification to note here that the Oriental Institute, Baroda is fortunate to have a fire proof rare donated by the ragacious and foresighted ruler the late Sir Sayajirav III Gaekwad, the founder of the Oriental Institute, which the royal family used to the protection and safety of their valuables. Passively a reference may be made a Jain made by which the original or old ownership as well as the new ownership of a mass was maintained and recenled, when it changed hands, i.e. when a manuscript later came into possession of another monk, mostly of a different lineage (gaccha, etc.) care was taken to record the ownership. With reference to Jains it may be noted that pims Jains, whether male or female, devotees acquired and protected an older ms/mass and then either gave it/them as gift to a Jain monk/monks or deposited it/them in a manuscript library. It is happy to note that this practice is still prevalent. For the protection and preservation of angular peinis/corner points and border-sides of palm-leaf or birde-bank or aloe-bank mass a special care was taken wooden covers were cut according to the size of the folios of the leaf-mass concerned and they lower; and Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
