actions (The six actions are peace, attraction, stupefying, sowing hatred, possession and killing. Note: The text gives the phrase sat-karma but does not explain. It can be the six limbs of yoga too.)
It is important to note that it is very difficult to follow all the details. Hence an ordinary house-holder has to follow the words of his preceptor and proceed further in religious and spiritual matters.
METHOD OF WORSHIP
Sri Haribhadra Suri had prescribed the following practices to be observed in The Bhaktamara worship.
1) The aspirant must keep an idol of Adinatha in front of him. 2) This idol may be of gold, silver or saptadhatu or any suitable material. 3) It must be kept after the performance of astaprakari worship.
(Astaprakari worship means offering the following eight to the deity with veneration. They are 1. Water- for bathing - abhiseka of idol 2. Sandal paste - to be applied in nine places in the idol 3. Flowers - 4. Aksata - unbroken rice 5. Nivedanam - offering sweet eatables 6. Phalam - offering
fruits 7. Dhupa - showing incense 8. Dipa - showing harati with ghee lamp) 4) The aspirant must be clean and apply sandal to his body. 5) Must wear clean, pure blemishless clothes 6) Take food only once a day. 7) Must be celibate. 8) Must always think of God. (i.e. give up other thoughts)
To accomplish the Stotra, it must be recited one hundred and twenty-five thousand times along with rddhi-mantra.
Besides the above practices, the following rules also are to be observed, while practising (any of) the first twenty-two verses. They are 1) The aspirant must do the worship in solitude. 2) The worship should not be done on the bare ground. The place must be besmeared with
the cow dung. must be clean. Must wear yellow garments.
Must establish Cakresvari on a throne in the northern direction. 6) A pitcher full of pancamrta must be placed.
(Pancamrta means the mixture of ghee, milk, curds, water and sugar. This must be kept in a vessal.
An unbroken coconut with shell and tuft must be placed on it). 7) The Gods of four directions (lokapalas) must be invoked. 8) A lamp with ghee as fuel must be lit.
