________________ Rājavāhana reaches the netherworld along with Mātanga. This, therefore, covers only about half the story in the pārvapithikā of Dasakumāracarita. Still, it is possible to glean from the available portion mach matter of historical interest. It is noteworthy that the author himself gives an indication of the main theme of the work in the passage, " प्रतिभातु तवैतदाश्चर्यभूतं सर्वपुरुषार्थोपदेशगुरु सर्वद्वीपवृत्तान्तबहुरसं सर्वकलाकलापगर्भगम्भीर सर्वसमयरखसम्भेदसम्मतं *सर्वादिराजवंशवर्णनमनोहरकथं सर्वदेवाgizgaišaigi afghazudfagfaquinaria (1Falgaalat ............ 9RATI" An anonymoos metrical commary of the work by name Avantisandarikathāsára has toen published from Madras by Sri. M. R. Kavi But this is also incomplete. At the begioning cf the work, as in Bāņā's Hargacarita, the author has given an autobiographical account of himself and the circumstances leading to his composition of the work. These can be summarised as follows :-+ There was at Kāncipura, in Southern India, a king by name Simhavisnu belonging to the Pallava dynasty. Once a Gandharva came to his court and eulogised him in the following verse " दनुजपतिहृदयभूधरविभेदविज्ञातशक्तिनखकुलिशम् । जगदुदयहेतु विष्णोरवतु वपुर्नारसिंहं वः ॥" * c. f. Dandin's own Kāvyādarasa, I. 5, arifarifudifanaq etc. † See also New Catalogus Catalogorum, Vol. 1. pp. 308310.
