________________ Age of अपराजितपृच्छा EXTERNAL EVIDENCE : Catalogus Catalogorun by T. Aufrecht Part I & II has noticed अपराजितपृच्छा. It is quoted by हेमाद्रि in दागखण्ड and also in परिशेषखपत 2, 660-62, 819. It is ascribed to भुवन देव and to भत्रदेव by some (vide no. 21 अपराजितgesi by Hita. Reports on Sanskrit MSS in the Bombay Presidency during 1883-84 by R. G. Bhandarkar). Nowhere, it may be incidentally observed, have I come across भवदेव as the author of अपराजितपृच्छा. It is invariably भुवनदेव wherever soufanget or its extracts are found. Detailed information regarding AE is available in R. G. Bhudackar's " Early History of the Docean." Hemādri was als) known as Hemidpunt and was the Finance Minister of niet and T7 both kings of the Northcn Yadava Dynasty. Mahadeva's time as can be gathered from the inscriptional and other evidences was 1260-71 A D. While T142.2 flourished between 1271-1309 A. D. The celebrated Marātii scholar anal and the grammarian Bopadeva were their contein poraries. I wrote a voluminous faia work called the lo consisting of five uss viz. qa, 17, at 2, and oftas. Il is both in the en and yoqaras that taifa has noticed 371 31. This fact helps to deterinine conclusively the lower limit of 377f1933', i, e. 1260-1369 A. D. or roughly, the latter half of the thirtecnth century A. D. Four kings with the naines of 3711fa appear to have flourished between 661 and 1161 A, D. in different parts of India. They are (1) The Guhila King 37 lufta (vide: Epi. Indica. IV. 29). There is an inscription ot A. D. 661 bearing the name of this king. (2) rahe (cir. A. D. 900) mentions 3713faa as one of his contemporarics and the author of a story called 1130. (Page 9 of Floqalet of 1900). (3) There is a copper plate of Toft (of 997 A. D.), the feraient king of Northeru Konkan. (Epi. Indi. Vol. III. 267). (4) अपराजित whose another name is देवपाल, is the son of मूलदेव ( 1161 A. D.). (vide Indian Antiquary Vol. XV, p. 202). Whether the composition of अपराजितपृच्छा, a ग्रन्थ on पास्तुशास्त्र, was the outcome of the behest of any one of these 3911 kings will be discussed, when the internal evidence has been sifted. INTERNAL EVIDENCE : (a) The closing sub i yaz which hear on music indicate that the author of the अपरा जतपृच्छ: has at least consulted भरतनाट्यशास्त्र, as is evident from a uti (34 V. 14), Hama ( 239), etc. 215 has 8 3s while f or mentions 9 Tas, the ninth one being .
