as Dhanya, Sunakshtra and Risidasa, are found. In the first Varga, only two Adhyayanas, named as Wārisseņa and Abhaya, are seen. The contents
This Āgama beautifully narrates the luxury and ascetic lives of many princes. The narration of the ascetic life of Dhanya Anagāra and his body emaciated due to the penance is noteworthy both from the literary and spiritual viewpoints.
PANHĀWĀGARANĀIN The title
The present Āgama is the tenth Anga of the Dwādaśāngi. Its title has been mentioned as 'Paṇhāwāgaraņāin' in the Samawāyanga Sūtra and the Nandi. Its name is found as 'Paṇhāwāgaradasão' in the Sthänānga and the same reads as 'Paṇhāwāgaraṇadasāsu' in the Samawāyānga. It is, therefore inferred that the title mentioned in the Sthānānga is also in concurrence with the Samawāyānga. The Jayadhawala and the Tattwärtha varttika note it as Panhāwāyaraņa or Praśna-Vyakaraņā.
The Contents
Opinions differ regarding the contents of the present Āgama. The Sthānānga cites its ten Adhyayanas, such as, Upamā, Samkhyā. Risibhāsita, Ācāryabhäşitā, Mahävira-bhäşitā, Kșaumaka-Praśna, Komala-Praśna, ĀdarśaPraśna, Anguştha-Praśna and Bāhu-Praśna. The headings of the Adhyayanas indicate well the contents they have.
According to the Samawāyānga and the Nandi, the present Agama has various types of queries, sciences (vidyās) and the dialogues of the Devas dealt with.
The Nandi notes fortyfive Adhyayanas of it, which do not accord with the Sthānanga. The Samawāyānga makes no mention of its Adhyavanas.
