By the Adhyayana of Atimuktaka Muni, the value of spiritual accomplishment can be well understood. Fasting alone is seen in this Āgama through out. The narrations of meditations are scanty. Lord Mahavira had laid stress upon both--the fast and the meditation. In the classification of penance, fast is the outer penance and meditation is the inner one. Lord Mahavira in his penance-period, had observed both, fast and meditation. It is worth investigating why this Agama lays so much stress on fasting only. This Agama, a remanent in the succession of oblivion and reproduction, is valuable and worthy of research work from many points of view.
ANUTTAROWAWĀIYA-DASÃO
The title
This Agama is the ninth Anga of the Dwādaśangi. As it containsten Adhyayanas regarding the Munis born in the Anuttara Swarga class, its title is given as 'Anuttarowawăiya- Dasāo'. The Nandi Sutra mentions only three Vargas? The Sthānānga quotes only ten Adhyayanas. According to the Rajavārttika groups of ten Anuttaropapātika Munis, contemporaries of each Tirthanker, have been narrated in it. The Samawāyānga mentions the ten Adhyayanās and the three Vargas too. But the headings of the ten Adhyayanas have not been given in it. According to the Sthānānga and the Tattwärthavärttika they read as, Risidasa, Dhanya, Sunaksatra, Kārttika, Swasthan, Salibhadra, Ananda, Tetali, Daśārņabhadra and Atimukta", and as Risidasa, Dhanya, Sunaksatra, Kärttika, Nandanandana, Gatibhadra, Abhaya, Wārişeņa, and Cilattaputra respectively. The above said Munis were the contemporaries of Lord Mahavira, such is the opinion of the author of the Tatta wārthavärttika. In the Dhawalā we find Kārtikeva instead of Kärttika and Anand instead of Nanda?
The present form of the Agama is different from the 'Vaćna' of the Sthânāga and the Samawāyānga. Abhayadeva Sūri holds that it is a different Vana'. In the form of the Agama, that is available, three Adhyayanas, such
