VIVĀGASUYAM
The title
The present Āgama is the 11th Anga of the Dwādaśāngi. The Vipāka (fruit) of the Sukrita and Duskrita deeds has been dealt with in it, therefore the title "Vivāgasuyam.' The Sthānānnga gives its title as Kāmma Vivāgadasā."
The Contents
This Agama has two divisions, i.e. the Dukha Vipāka and the Sukha Vipāka. The first division contains the topics on the lives of the individuals doing bad deeds. On going through the said contents, it appears that, in every age, there are some individuals who commit horrible crimes on account of their cruel mentality. It is also gathered how the criminal deeds affect their physical and mental states. The second division has the life-contents of those individuals who perform good deeds. As the commitant of cruel deeds are found in every age, so are the persons having the tranquil mentality. Conjunction of goodness and badness is not without cause. Conclusion
The Sthānānga Sūtra enamurates ten Adhyayanas of the Karma-Vipāka such as, Mrigāputra, Gotrāsa, Anda, Sakata, Māhan, Nandişeņa, Saurika Udumbara, Sahasoddāha-Amaraka, and Kumar Licéhavī. These headings have been taken from some other Vaćna'.
The account of the Anga-Sūtras and the peculiar form they are presently found in are not fully harmonic. On this basis, it may be inferred that the obtained form of the Āgama Sūtras in not ancient only, but is a mixture of the editions of old and new, both. This will form an important subject of investigation as to how much of the present form of the AngaSūtra is ancient and how much modern, as well as who of the Āćaryas composed it and when. The language, the subject-matter and the style of ascertainment will surely form the basis of investigation. This is of course, highly toilsome, but not impossible.
