'स्वकण्ठेनानुक्तिशङ्कानिरासाय सूत्रस्थस्य संक्षेपत इति पदस्यान्वयप्रदर्शन
मुखेव व्याचष्टे' 1. c., explains in his own words and thus clearly shows that he considers the author of the Vrtti as identical with the author of the Sūtra.
Reference should also be made to the following:
(1) gelapu ar la sfarsita' (P. 15) For example refer to Mankhuka's Srikanthastava.
(2) 7211 hente sfrustrà' (P.-18) As in my Srikanthastava.
Here Mankhīya may be a mistake for madīya; or as is not at all improbable, the author may have referred to his work in the 3rd person in one place and in the 1st person in another.
Under the cirumstances we would defer pronouncing a conclusive opinion on the authorship of the present work until we are in possession of some at least of the many works of Sri Ruyyaka referred to in Srikanthacharita,
"यत्कृतिष्ववधानेन मूर्धा कस्य न वीप्सया। . सारस्वतरसावर्तवलनेनेव चेष्टते ॥
sty*H*ITH ......” (Sarga 25, Stanza, 29) and of those of Mankhuka mentioned in the preface to the first edition of this work.
It is not proposed here to deal with the date of the author or authors as the case may be, of the present work and other details, as these have been well-discussed by the learned editor (No. 40. T. S. S.)
From the treatment herein adopted as the result of discussing the views of all well-known Alaňkārikās, the work should be welcome to all lovers of Sanskrit literature. The high estimation in which this Alankārasūtra has been held by scholars is shown by the recognition it has received at the hands of Sāhityachakravartilouhitya Bhattagõpāla who quotes its views as decisive in several places in his commentary on Kavyaprākasa called Sāhityachūdā mani.
