EDITOR'S NOTE
I am very happy at the publication of the second part of the Viyahapannattisutta (= Vyakhyāprajñaptisūtra), well known as the Bhagavatisūtra, which occupies a very important place among the Jaina Agamas on account of the variety of subjects discussed in it.
But for the help rendered to me by Pt. Shri Amritlal Mohanlal Bhojak I am afraid I would not have been able to complete the editing of this second part because I am stricken with old age and have lately suffered from a heart-attack. But without my asking he shouldered the task and accomplished it successfully. This shows his devotion to the Scriptures. I am grateful to him and unhesitatingly declare that his work will prove a boon to the scholars of the Agamas.
On account of the death of Agamaprabhakara Muni Śrī Punyavijayaji it became impossible for me to obtain the mss. necessary for the editing work and hence I could not utilise them in the first part. But afterwards Pt. Amritlal could obtain them and on their basis he has tried to make the text of the Bhagavatisütra as flawless as possible. I am very happy to take note of this. At the end of the third part in an Appendix he is to remove certain defects that remained in the first part.
Pt. Shri Dalsukhbhai Malvania has spared his valuable time for discussions whenever Pt. Amritlal approached him. Again, it is he who read the final proofs. I am thankful to him.
As Pt. Amritlal Bhojak is to write description of mss. utilised in the preparation of this critical edition of the Bhagavatisutra, I refrain from writing anything about it. Again, he has discussed important readings in the Introduction. So I need not write on this topic also. Taking into consideration the importance of the Bhagavatisūtra, it is necessary to prepare and add some Appendices to its critical edition. But my failing health does not permit me to do all this. Yet the edition will contain this valuable material as Pt. Amritlal has promised me to prepare the necessary Appendices.
The Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya has done well in undertaking and accomplishing the Herculean task of publishing the critical edition of a voluminous Agama work, viz., the Bhagavatisūtra. For this, I must thank its management.
