The body must be completely separated from the soul for salva tion : (a) “O wretched man that I am ! who shall deliver me from the body of this death ?” (Romans vii. 24). (b) “ In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ” (Colossians ii. 11). (c) • I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service" (Romans xii. 1). (d) “ For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and the joints and marrow” (Heb. iv. 12). (e) “The Saviour himself enjoins,' watch 'as much as to say study how to live and endeavour to separate the soul from the body'" (A.N.C. Lib. xii. 284). (f) “ Knowing this that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed...” (Romans vi. 6). 8. Desire for sense-indulgence the cause of trouble : (a) “ For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die” (Romans viii. 3). (b) “ But to be carnally-minded is death ” (Romans viii. 6). (c) “ For flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh : and these are contrary the one to the other : so that ye cannot do the things that ye would” (Gala tians v. 17). (d) “ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts..." (Galatians v. 24). (e) “ For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body” (2 Cor. iv. 10).
