Ācārānga Curņi, p. 79: pariggahoņāma atirittam samjamovakaraṇāto jam bhamdayam, bhanitam ca- jam jujjati uvagāre uvagaranam tamsi hoti uvagaranam, ihatu āhārādhikāre vattamāne jattiyam anesanijjam kimci davam tamsamjamassa uvaghātottikāum jenehim padikuttham bhavatitti, esaņijjampi arimattāe na ghittavvam, mattājuttampi na etam maya gurumāīņam ņa etam. (a) Cūrņau Vịttau ca punaruktiparaśnaḥ evam carcito'sti - sati ya utthānakamma-bala-viriya-purisagāra-parakkame, äha - jati utthānabalāna egatthā tam teņa balagrahanā utthānagrahaņā ya punaruttam esaņijjamti, bhannati - avviriyakāraṇāņa punaruttam, tattha nāņam iham karanam, kālo balam khittam avvivariyam āyariyavvam tena na punaruttam (Cūrņi, p. 79) kālānutthāi yadyasmin kāle kartavyam tattasminnevānuśthātum śīlamasyeti kālānusthāyī, kälānatipātakartavyodyato, natu cāsyārthasya se bhikkhù kālanne ityanenaiva gatārthavāt kimartha punarabhidhiyate iti? naisa dosah, tatra hi jñapariñaiva kevalā bhihitā, kartavyakālam jānāti, iha punarāsevanăparijñā, karttavyakāle, kārya vidhatta iti. (Vrtti, patra 120). Acāränga Curņi, p. 80: ayam pimdasamdhiti ādhavittä jāva kāle nutthāe apaļiņno etesim egāhiyäriehim suttehim ekkārasa pimdesaņão nijjüdhão. eto vatthasaņapātesaņāo nijjūdhão (Ā. Cū. P. 80) eto suttā sejjāņijjūdhā (Ibid, p. 80) It is not, possible to lay down the exact quantum of food. It depends upon one's appetite. Neither do all persons have the same appetite nor do they take the same quantum of food. Even then, Bhagavān Mahāvira has indicated the average qantum of food as thirty-two morsels and has admonished the monks to take a little less than that, Ācārānga Cūrni, p. 81 labhyate labhyate sādhu, sādhu eva na labhyate. Alabdhe tapaso vrddhirlabdhe dehasya dhāraņā... Even while acquiring food, clothing, etc. the monk should abstain from acquisitiveness. The thrust "I will use this food and clothing for myself only and will not share it with others," is also acquisitiveness. "This, what I have obtained, does not belong to me, but belongs to the Preceptor and to the order" - thinking thus, he should avoid falling a prey to acquisitiveness. Not to take unacceptable food, clothing etc., not to get attached to and not to hoard acceptable food, clothing etc., duly obtained -all these are necessary to cultivate non-acquisitiveness.
