The tradition regarding the Origin of the Paümacariya (as recorded by Vimala Sūri himself is as follows :) The Paümacariya was in the form of a list of names and was handed down in regular succession from teacher to his disciplel. It was first told by Lord Mahāvīra to Indrabhūti Gautama who retold it to his disciple. It became known to generations of people through a succession of 'Sādhus'2. Rāhu was his grand JAIN RĀMĀYAŅAS (School of Vimala) Paüma-Cariya-(Pk.) about 3rd century A. D. or somewhat later Sanghadāsa's version, Pk. (School of Gunabhadra) (not later than 609 A. D.)
