________________ साहित्य सत्कार : १४५ Luitgard Soni, Colette Caillat, Nalini Balbir and John E. cort. The whole content of the book is divided in four sections i.e. (1) Philosophy & Anekānta, (2) Early Jainism, Buddhism & Ājivikism, (3) Ethics and Monaistic disciplene and (4) Mediaevel Mysitics and Sectarian Divisions, which describe the Jain philosophy of Anekānta as well as the Historical Development of Jainism togather with the relation to Buddhism and Ajēvikas. It also deals with the Jaina System of Ethics and conduct including Social life, monastic rules alongwith the Mediaeval Jaina Literature. Though all articles have equal importance but articles on Anekānta are somewhat striking. It explains that how the self contradictory or two opposite charaters live simultuneously in a object. It is all evident from the Jain Literature that Jaina authors like Samantabhadra, Akalanka, Vidyānanda, Siddhasena Diväkara and Yaśovijaya laid a firm foundation of Anekāntavāda and established a grand structure of the philosophy of Non-absolutism. The articles are framed maticulausly which expose the subject concerned clearly. The language is simple and lucide. Motilal Banarasidass descerves for thanks for bringing out such a nice compilation. The book will definitely help the scholars in their serious researches on Jainism. A study in the Origin and Development of Jainism, Author Dr. S.N. Shrivastava, Published by Rekha Publication, Gorakhpur, First Edition 2002, Pages - 6 + 148, Price - Rs. 325. Prof. Shrivastava's - 'A Study in the Origin and Development of Jainism' is a pioneer work in the field of History of the Jaina Religion. Volumes have been come out on the subject but a critical analysis of Jaina Historiography reveals that inspite of several efforts made, many aspects of the Jaina History are not taken into account properly e.g. the evidence related to Vrätyas. Prof. Shrivastava in this present title has succeeded to review the early History of Jainism not only in the light of fresh interpretations of the known facts but also in the light of new emerging facts and their interpretation. He has beautifully discussed the History of Jainism from its beginning to the time of schism of the Jaina order in Svetāmbara and Digambara. Author's deep insight to the subject, way of disussion, and Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
