________________ PREFACE xxi portions have been reconstructed by us on the basis of the Tibetan translation as preserved in the Tanjour (The Tibetan Tripitaka, Vol. 110, Ed. by Prof. D. T. Suzuki, Tokyo-Kyoto, 1957). Several intrusions are also found in the manuscript. The major text-portions of the Srutamayi and Cintāmayi bhūmis (F. 3), the Pratyekabuddhabhūmi and the concluding portions of the Nirupadhikābhūmi (F.15) along with the gāthāvyavasthānas (F.3, 15) are also found intruded in the body of the present manuscript. . On the other hand, the photostat suggests that the original manuscript was erazed, damaged and partly broken on its sides. Similarly some leaves overlap other leaves of the manuscript and at places the photostat was too dim and faint to be deciphered. It is interesting to note that the text of the manuscript has, at places, been corrected by another hand. Some omissions and additions in the body of the present manuscript are equally traced by way of correction. Likewise, the first twenty and a few other leaves of the manuscript were wrongly arranged in the photostat which suggests that the original also contained the same defect. We have tried to re-arrange this material on the basis of the context. Srāvakabhūmi has severally been translated into 1. These reconstructions have appeared in some journals, such as the GJRI, VIJ and the Gorakhpur University Sodha Patrikā and will be published soon with the second volume of the persent work.
