We hope that the tippaņi provided in this edition will help in solving many problems of interpretation. It must however be mentioned here that a Nyāyamañjari praised by. Vācaspatimiśra in the following verse ‘अज्ञानतिमिरशमनी परदमनी न्यायमञ्जरी रुचिराम् । (Nyāyakalikā) is a different work. The reference to Nyāyamañjarī by Vācaspati here'is, to a work of that name on Mīmāmsa by Trilocana. Hence, the surmise that Jyanta might be Vācaspati's teacher as made by some scholars lacks 'proof. Most probably, these two gaints of Indian Philo. sophy did not know each other ,in spite of the proximity in time. Jayanta's contribution to Nyāyaśāstra : Among the three works by Jayanta on nyāya the first: one, viz, Nyayakalika is just introductory work on the subject. As Jayanta himself says - अजातरसनिष्यन्दमनभिव्यक्तसौरभम् । Page Navigation
