SHRI MEGHRATH RAJA
महाविदेह की पुंडरीकिणी नगरी के राजा मेघरथ पौषध में थे, उस वक्त भय से कांपता हुआ एक कबूतर उनकी गोद में आया और मानव - वाणी में बोलने लगा : हे राजन् ! मेरी रक्षा करो। मेरे प्राणों की रक्षा करो।
King Megharatha, the ruler of the city of PundariKini, in Mahavideh, was absorbed in carrying out a vow called Paushadha Vrat. Just at that time a dove which was shivering with fear, came and fell into his lap; and then in the human language, it said, "Oh, King! Kindly give me refuge and protection, Kindly save my life, My life is in danger."
राजा ने उस कबूतर को सुरक्षा का आश्वासन दिया.. उतने में ही एक बाजपक्षी आया और बोलने लगा : राजन् ! यह कबूतर मेरा भोजन है। मुझे दे दो। राजा ने देने से इन्कार किया तो उसने कहा : राजन् ! तुम्हें कबूतर पर दया आती है, तो मुझ पर दया नहीं आती, मैं भूखा मर रहा हूँ । आप कबूतर को नही दे सकते हो, तो उतना मांस दो।
The king moved by the birds fear and anguish, assured it that he would give the necessary protection. Meanwhile, a hawk came there; and began to say, "C King! This dove is my food. Kindly give it to me." The king refused to give the dove to the hawk. Then it said, "Oh king! You want to show kindness to the dove, don't you have any kindness for me? I am dying of hunger. If you do not like to give me the dove you may keep it but give me it's weight of flesh."
राजा ने सोचा: दूसरों का मांस तो मैं नहीं दे सकता हूं, लेकिन मेरा खुद का मांस इस बाजपक्षी को अवश्य दे सकता हूं।
The king thought that he could not give the flesh of any other jiva but he could give the hawk his own flesh.
