________________ CHAPTER VII] BOWER MANUSCRIPT Ixxy raja-lambhasatu lapayase; V 12 204 vimókshag=cha bháti kâmô labhish yasi; VI 5-6 222 Svatir (nom, for Svâtim) bhikshum (acc.)...drishtvå. (6) Accusative for nominative, not uncommon in the subject of a sentence; thus a series of several accusatives in II 78 30 syâd rasa sa-sukta ambilavētasa i vida yavani.; II 80 30 syâch-chitraka.i yutam ašvagandhâm; II 169 35 ikshu-mulani kandekshûn ikshu-válikâm etc.; II 204 37 chitrakani triphalási urihatish kanlakarikám, etc. Sometimes, however, the word syât is a mere pleonastic adverb of perinission (“may be "), and the series of accusatives depend on dadyât, or a similar transitive verb, as in II 182-3 35 syât tryûshanan...syad atha dévadâru... syâd atmaguptam atha...mêdân=cha dadyad-dhi satavarii-cha. Sometimes nominatives and accusatives are mixed, as in II 35 28 katutrikai (nom.) tiktakaróhinish (acc.) yavash (acc.) chirâtatiktô (nom.) tha satakkratör=yavah (nom.) samâh syur=été ; II 40 28 râsnâi (acc.) bhadramusta (acc.) agáradhûmai (acc.) katukatrikali (nom.) ksharó (nom) ahadi (nom.) chêt samainsà (nom) bhagah (nom.) samas=chúrnna-kritah (nom.); II 291 41 amalakân (acc.) kalorukah (nom.) syuh. (c) Accusative for dative: once in II 207 37 viriktash (acc.. for viriktaya) tu yavágua... bhôjanan dà payet; probably an instance of double accusative. (6) Ablative for instrumental, regularly with prayôgât (for prayôgêna), in II 198, 200 36, 308, 310 42 462 49 830 64. (e) Genitive for nominative: only once in II 1116 76 pivéta balasya (for balah); but the construction of the whole verse is abnormal, and probably corrupt. (1) Genitive for accusative: in II 295 41 kashaya-madku rânath (for madhura ni) sitâny-api cha...vi pâchayêt; II 300 41 mukta-vidruma-saskhânâih (for -saikhah) -chandrakantêndranilayoh (for endranilau)...imân pachet; II 928 69 daridranasi (for daridran) chikitsati, and II 949 70 naranami (for naran) chikitsate. (8) Genitive for instrumental, in II 253 39 Asvind 'numata (for Asvibhyam); so also malam-dávinôh in II 575 and 579 54.-Again, in II 1022 72 gudikâyák (for gudikaya) pralé payét; II 1077 74 gandha-tailasya (for gandha-tailena) půrayét. (h) Genitive for dative; in II 222 37 ékânga-róginash dadyât; II 315 42 hita urinámi; II 324 42 atrinâu cha déya.; II 800 62 vyâ panna-tailasya hita; II 1013 72 balasya da payet; II 1015, 1017, 1020, 1026, bâlânâih dâpayêt; II 1029 72 badhyamanasya dâpayét. But the normal dative occurs in II 1011 71 kumaraya prada payêt, and II 1045 73 balaya dá payết. (0) Genitive for locative, in I 102 8 vidrutas-cha (for vidrute) jantôr...vadanapralépe. possibly by false assimilation to the adjacent genitive jantôh.-Again, in II 63 29 arjassu hridrôginam hikka-svasishu (for hridrôgishu) hitan; II 94 31 vishứchikaya (for vishứchikâyân) ariassu... prayuñjanah, though here possibly a clerical error of â for ma.-Again, in II 357-8 44 múkânâm (for mûkéshu)...arditeshu.cavabhagnêshu sandhishu ; II 1081 75 lihecht=chhardya iti (for chhardyam=iti). (k) Locative for instrumental, in II 1038 73 gudikâyâ (for gudikaya) pralé payét. (1) Mixture of accusative, genitive, and locative, in II 221 37 våtaslêshmâni 114 (acc.) pándúnám (gen) ariassu (loc)...dadyat. Similarly in II 377-8 45 kam pangit-cha (ace.) griddhrasinaid (gen.) tathaiva cha bhagandaré (loc.). (2) Exchange of "Numbers": (a) singular for dual; not uncommon; as in II 29 27 tintidik-amblavētasain, but normal tintidik-amblavētasê in II 64 29. Similarly unmadavisar pa, II 341 43; gandamála-bhagandarê (for bhagandarayo), II 249 39; dhanvayavashakachandana, II 138 33; nihva-kadasiba. II 233 38; padmak-âguru i, (for agurllri), II 266 114 Conjectural for the original reading vata-sléshmáti which is erroneous. It may be intended for sléshmani, or sléshmani, in either case for $ldshmani or adshmani; or it may be léshmarti,
