________________ 42 @急卐 History of Jainism with Special Reference to Mathura first ganadhara and arya were Samba and Dāminī respectively.323 He attained mokṣa in the kayotsarga posture 324 on Samet Sikhara.325 Aranātha According to the Svetambara tradition, Aranatha, the eighteenth tīrthamkara, was born at Gajapura; but the Digambara tradition holds that he was born at Hastinapura.326 His father Sudarsana was the king of Hastinapura327, and his mother's name was Devī328 or Mahadevī329 or Mittra 330 According to the Jaina tradition, Aranatha descended for incarnation from the heaven Sarvärthasiddha.331 He married at the insistence of his father332 and ruled for long as a cakravartin.333 Subsequently, he abdicated the throne to live the life of an ascetic.
