collection was first described by Wilson in 1828, which contains 1568 Indic mss., 264 vols. of local tracts, 77 vols. of inscriptions 75 vols. of translations, maps, 75 plans, 2630 drawing, 6218 coins, 106 images and 40 antiquities. Out of these huge collection only 274 Tamil,176 Telugu, 182 Kannada, 6 Malayalam,23 Oriya, 16 Marathi and 20 Hindi mss. were forwarded to Madras Presidency and deposited in the College library in 1828, are described in the present volume. The rest had been transmitted to England during 1823-1825. Presently the Mackenzie collection is located in London,
Calcutta and Madras. Description of 1304 Sanskrit, 108 Telugu, 56 Tamil, 528 Kannada, 11 Malayalam and 9 Oriya mss. with notes. The College and the Literary Society's manuscripts (p. 749-802) contain description of 40 Sanskrit, 23 Telugu, 2 Kannada and 90 Tamil mss. Title varies. Vol. 2 and 3 published as: A catalogue raisonne' Oriental manuscripts in the Government Library. Description of about 5515 Indic mss. with copious notes. index.
