________________ 152 NOTES 89. जस्सट्टाए कीरइ नग्गभावे जाव तमट्ठमाराहेइ-The full passage runs as follows :-मुण्डभावे केसलोए बम्भचेरवासे अण्हाणगं अच्छत्तयं अणवाहणयं भूमिसेज्जाओ फलगसेजाओ परघरप्पवेसे लद्धावलद्धाइं माणावमाणाई परेसिं हीलणाओ निन्दणाओ खिसणाओ तालणाओ गरहणाओ उच्चावया विरूवरूवा बावीसं परीसहोवसग्गा गामकण्टगा अहियासिजन्ति तमहमाराहेइ. 93. मङ्काती or मंकाई is the name of u sage who attained a happy end, The etymology of the word is doubtful and hence I have kept a intact. 100. जहा पुण्णभद्दे-The description of पुण्णभद्द will be found in औपपातिकसूत्र or on page 120 of my clition of the उवासगदसाओ. मोग्गरपाणि is so called because the god carried a club, मोग्गर, मगर, weighing a thousand पलs. _104. आलोए पणामं करेइ, sulutes on the sight. of (on seeing) the image. दवदवस्स is an advery moaning द्रुतं द्रुतम्, hastily. Thers are similar forms of adverbs with Genitive ending like सरसरस्स, तडतडस्स etc, 105. तं जइ णं मोग्गरपाणिजक्खे इह संनिहिए होन्ते, से पं किं ममं एयारूवं आवइं पाविज्जमाणं पासन्ते ? If, indeed, मोग्गरपाणि god had been (spiritually) present here (in this wooden image ), would he have allowed me to suffer this calamity ? For Conditional construction with the present participles होन्त and पासन्त, compare हेमचन्द्र's व्याकरण, III. 180. सुव्वत्तं णं एस कट्टे, quite clearly this is ( nothing but a log of) wood (com. कटुं दारु तन्मयत्वाद्देवताशून्यत्वेन आकंचित्करत्वात् ).
