FOREWARD I am glad to be able to write this Foreword to the secol. valume of Advaita-dipika containing the second and - third chapters of the original text. The fourth and pter is already in the press awaiting release in a ? volume in near future. e Svami Nysimhasrama, the author, meets the challenge dualists. It was for Sri Sankaracarya, the great to counteract the charges of the earlier exponents of Cortin mui, viz., the Naiyayikas and others, against the position of the monists. The dualists ask Sankara : You appear to be the only one who believes in monism. But, we, the dualists, are so many. How could you venture to overpower us ? Sankara answers : "Yes., I admit you are many. But, I am still sure of victory. Let me present my arguments that will outwit you all." In the BIhadaranyaka-Bhasya Sankara proclaims : The fortress of monism is impregnabie to the most ruthless attack by the advocates of Nyaya. The second chapter of the present work adumbrates the identity of Jiva with Brahman. It examines the contention of the dualists that Jivas are different from one another and from the Lord as well.
