________________ (7) 1. Bliss is not an attribute of Brahman but its very essence. Pain is a quality of the mind. It is experienced by us due to the fact that we fail to discriminate the mind, the locus of pain, from the self. In the state of emancipation both pain and its locus take to their heels with the dawning of Brahman-knowledge. 2. Size of Atman is the next topic. Atman is ubiquitous. This is explained in the sutras Utkrantigatyagatinam, Svatmana co'ttarayoh, Na'nur atacchruter iti cen ne'taradhikurat, Suasabdonmanabhyan ca, Avirodhas candanavat, Avasthitivalsesyad iti cen nabhyupagamad dhrdi hi, Gunad va lokavat, Vyatireko gandhavat, Tatha ca darsayati, Pythag up adesat, Tadgunasaratvat tu tadvyapadesah prajnavat. 3. Agency. ( kartetva ) is not a quality of Atman. The Brhadaranyaka says: dhyayati'va lelayati'va, where iva is intended to imply that Atman acts as if he were the agent. And, this is so because of adhyasa. 4. The falsity of duality is accepted also on the authority of the Upanisadic texts: yatra hi dvaitam iva pas yati. 5. What is meant by avidyanivytti ? Is it the destruction of avidya ? Vimuktatman and his followers Ananda. nubhava, Anandabodha and others say that it is neither sat, nor asat, nor sadasat, nor even sadasadvilaksana. It is a fifth kind. Madhusudana Sarasvati follows Suresvara when he says : There is nothing as dhvamsa
