All modes of cognition are sequential, therefore, in a single soul, there can be only one mode of cognition at a time. 533. In the case of the five-sensed beings without the eye-sense, there are two modes of cognition - mati-ajnana (non-sensory knowledge) and sruta-ajnana (scriptural knowledge). 6.
For the complete four-sensed beings and the complete five-sensed beings without the eye-sense, there are two modes of cognition - darsana (visual perception) and mati-ajnana. For the incomplete four-sensed beings, the incomplete five-sensed beings without the eye-sense, the one-sensed beings, the two-sensed beings, the deficient-sensed beings, and the auditory beings, there are three modes of cognition - mati-ajnana, sruta-ajnana, and acaksur-darsana (non-visual perception).
In the incomplete five-sensed beings, excluding the four modes of cognition - manaḥparyāya-jñāna (telepathy), tiryag-darsana (clairvoyance), kevala-jñāna (omniscience), and kevala-darsana (omnivision), the remaining eight modes of cognition - mati-jñāna (sensory knowledge), sruta-jñāna (scriptural knowledge), avadhi-jñāna (clairvoyant knowledge), mati-ajñāna, sruta-ajñāna, vimanga-jñāna (intuitive knowledge), and avadhi-darsana (clairvoyant perception) - are present. 6.
