इस भाव को समझाने के लिये शास्त्र* में एक यह ष्टान्त दिपा गया है कि तीन प्रवासी कहीं जा रहे थे । बीच में भयानक चोरों को देखते ही तीन मे से एक तो पीछे भाग गया। दूसरा उन छोरों से डर कर नहीं मागा, किन्तु उनके द्वारा पकड़ा गया। सोसरा तो असाधारण बल तथा कौशल से उन चोरों को हराकर आगे बढ़ ही गया । मानसिक विकारों के साथ आध्यात्मिक युद्ध करने में जो जयपराजय होता है, उसका थोड़ा बहुत स्थाल उक्त दृष्टान्त से बा सकता है ।

जड़ वा तिनि मणुस्सा, जंतष्टवियहं सहाब गमणं । बेला इक्क मभिया, तुरंति यत्तायदो चोरा ।। १२११ ।।
हृद्छु मध्य तत्थे, ने एगो मग्गओ पsिनियत्ता | वित्तिओ गहिलो तओ मम इक्कंतु पुरंतो । १९१९ ॥ अडवी भवो मणूसा, जीबा कम्मट्टीई यहो दोहो । गंद्रीय मयठाणं रागद्धमा व दो चोरा ।। १२१३ ।। भगो लिई परिवुडकी, गहिओ पुण गठिओ ओ तो । गम्मत्त पुरं एवं जो एज्जातिष्णी करण णि ।। १२१४ ॥ - विशेषावश्यक भाष्य
यथा जनात्रयः केऽपि । माहपुर विपास प्राप्ताः वकचन कान्तारे, स्थानं चौर: भयंकरम् ॥ ६१६ ।। तर दुतं द्रुतं यान्तो, दस्तस्करमम् ।
तद्दष्ट्रा त्वरितं पश्वादेको मीतः पलायितः ॥ ६२ ॥ गृहीतश्चापरस्ताभ्यामन्यत ।
भयस्थानमतिक्रमम्य, पुरं प्राप पराक्रमी ।। ६२१ :
