(श्रावक धर्म विधि प्रकरण)
Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and pure Shudra (leaving aside the violent castes) as it assimilates for each its own traditional conduct.
एए पुण विण्णेया, लिंगेहितो परोवयारीहिं। ताई तु पंच पंच य, तिण्हं पि हवंति एयाइं ॥८॥
८. बहुमान्य गृही धर्म के इन लक्षणों को परोपकारियों (धर्माचारियों) से जानना चाहिए। ये गृही धर्म के अधिकारी लक्षण पाँच-पाँच और तीन प्रकार के हैं। इनका आगे प्रतिपादन करेंगे।
8. One should learn the principal attributes of the popular and revered grihi dharm or householder's conduct from the benefactors (acharya; religious teacher, or head of the asceticorder). There are 5, 5, and 3 (13) attributes I will discuss here in details. गिहिधम्मकहापीई, निंदाऽसवणं च तदणुकंपा य। सविसेसजाणणिच्छा, चित्तनिवेसो तहिं चेव ||
९. श्रावक धर्म की कथा अर्थात् अनुष्ठान में प्रीति, किसी . . की निन्दा नहीं सुनना, निंदकों पर भी अनुकम्पा या करुणा, विशेष रूप से ज्ञान प्राप्त करने की जिज्ञासा और चित्त का धर्म में निवेश (एकाग्रता) - ये धर्म के पाँच लक्षण हैं।
9. Love for discourses (and other rituals and programmes) on or about the shravak dharm (1); indifference towards opprobrium about shravak dharm (2); compassion towards such critics (3); curiosity to gain better knowledge of the same (4) and sincere application (concentration and devotion) (5) are the five attributes of dharm.
