भक्तामर-प्रणत-मौलि-मणिप्रभाणामुद्द्योतकं दलित-पाप-तमोवितानम् । सम्यक् प्रणम्य जिन-पादयुगं युगादा
वालम्बनं भवजले पततां जनानाम् ।।१।। भगवान ऋषभदेव के चरण-युगल में भक्तिपूर्वक नमन करते हए देवताओं के मुकुटमें जड़ी मणियाँ प्रभु के चरणों की दिव्य कान्ति से और अधिक चमकने लगती हैं। भगवान के उन पवित्र चरणों का स्पर्श ही प्राणियों के पापों का नाश करने वाला है, तथा जो उनके चरण-युगल का आलम्बन लेता है, वह संसारसमुद्र से पार हो जाता है। इस युग के प्रारम्भ में धर्म का प्रवर्तन करने वाले प्रथम तीर्थंकर ऋषभदेव के चरण-युगल में विधिवत् प्रणाम करके में स्तुति करता हूँ॥१॥
ભક્તિસભર વંદન કરનાર દેવોના નમેલા મુગટના મણિઓની કાંતિને વધારનાર, પાપરૂપી અંધકાર નાશ કરનાર, સંસાર સમુદ્રમાં ભટકતાં જીવોનો ઉદ્ધાર કરનાર, એવા આદિયુગના પ્રથમ ધર્મપ્રવર્તક શ્રી આદિનાથ પ્રભુના અલૌકિક ચરણોનું આલંબન લઈ, ભક્તિપૂર્વક વંદન કરી હું આ સ્તુતિનો भारंभ रीश. १.
When men and Gods bow down to Bhagwan Rishabhdev, his radiance dissipates the darkness of souls. Those who fall at his feet will find forgiveness and shall be free from the seas of sin. I begin this prayer by bowing down at the feet of Bhagwan Rishabhdev. (1)

Introduction
The Jain religion is one of the oldest religions in the world. It originated in India and spread all over the world. It derives its name from the word Jin which means the conqueror or the Victorious ones. These spiritual victors are also known as Tirthankars. They are the ones who established the religious order-Chaturvidh Sangh.
Places where we worship Tirthankars for spiritual salvation are called Tirth. Even the Tirthankars bow to the Tirth - which are of two types: spiritual and physical. Spiritual ones are Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyaya, and Sadhu. Physical ones are the temples, stupas, caves, and chaityas. There are many temples- places of Worship, all over India. Out of all of these there are five main ones where all 24 Tirthankars attained salvation as per following verse from scripture given below.
अष्टापदे श्री आदि जिनवर, वीर पावापुरी वरूं, वासुपूज्य चंपानयर सिद्या, नेम रैवत गिरि वरूं; सम्मेत शिखरे वीस जिनवर, मुक्ति पहुंच्या मुनिवरूं, चउवीस जिनवर नित्य वंदु, सयल संघ सुखकरूं.
Adinath Bhagawan attained Nirvana at Ashtapad, Mahavir Swami at Pavapuri, Vasupujya Swami at Champapuri and, Neminath Bhagawan attained Nirvana at Girnar. The other 20 Tirthankars attained Nirvana at Sametshikhar. I always bow down with reverence to all the twenty four Tirthankars, which brings eternal happiness to all.
Four of these Tirths are in existence now where one can go and worship but the fifth one, Ashtapad Maha Tirth, is lost lupt) in time, which members of Jain Center of America are trying to rediscover. We are going to talk about this Tirth in detail in the following pages.

Shri Ashtapad Maha Tirth
Ashtapad Tirth is one of the five major Tirths in Jain Religion which is regarded as lost. It is believed to be situated in the tranquil heights of snow clad Himalayas where it is open to the skies. Jain Center of America Inc., New York has received a replica of this Tirth carved out of crystal & gemstones which is installed in the conservatory on the 4th floor of the temple building.
The Jain scripture has singled out five central events (known as Pancha kalyanak) that occur in a Tirthankar's lifetime as the most auspicious moments. First is Chyavan Kalyanak, second is Janma Kalyanak, third is Diksha Kalyanak. After very deep contemplation and meditation, the Tirthankar attains omniscience, KevalJnan Kalyanak, - the fourth life-changing event. The last event is Nirvana Kalyanak, where the soul gets free from all karmic bonds and is liberated to attain Siddha status.

Once after attaining absolute knowledge, Shri Rishabhadev Bhagwan was delivering a sermon while seated in Samavasaran. Out of curiosity, King Bharat asked if any human being living here would become a Tirthankar in the future. He replied affirmatively and said that his son Marichi will become the 24th Tirthankar after many life cycles and will be known as Mahavir. He subsequently explained the upcoming Chovisi (24 Tirthankars). This is how King Bharat came to know the details about the present Chovisi.

The last event is where the soul gets finally free from all the karmic bonds and is liberated to attain Siddha status. Nirvana-bhoomi, or the places where the Tirthankars attained the ultimate goal of breaking away from the circle of life, have turned into key pilgrimage places. All 24 Tirthankars attained nirvana at five places (Five Maha Tirth). As per Jain scriptures, the first Tirthankar Bhagawan Shri Rishabhadev had attained nirvana on Ashtapad Mountain.
Chakravarti King Bharat (son of Shri Rishabhadev) had built a palace of crystal and installed 24 idols of Shri
Tirthankars carved out of gemstones at this place as a memorial to commemorate the nirvana of Bhagawan Shri Rishabhadev. The name "Ashtapad" is derived from the fact that there are eight (Ashta) steps (Pad) leading to the palace.

History - References from Scripture
1. Ekadash Angadi Agam, oldest text, mentions Ashtapad as Tirth.
a. Acharanga Niryukti, verse 332 -the first to mention Ashtapad Tirth. b. Sutra Krutangasutra mentions that Rishabhdev gave discourse to his son, King Bharat,
on Ashtapad. c. Uttaradhyayan Sutra Niryukti says that anyone (Charam Shariri) who can scale Ashtapad
Tirth will attain nirvana or Moksha (Chapter 10) and describes Kailash as a Mountain of
Gold and Silver. d. Avashyak Sutra Niryukti has the description of Ashtapad. e. Kalpasutra mentions Nirvana Bhoomi of Rishabhdev at Ashtapad. f. Nishith Churni Divine has a description about Nirvana of Rishabhdev Bhagwan on Ashtapad
Mountain. g. Vividh Tirth Kalpa - Jinaprabh Suri wrote in Ashtapad Giri Kalpa, that Gautam Swami entered
Sinha Nishadhya Prasad from South. 2. Acharya Dharma Ghosh Suriji's "Shri Ashtapad Maha Tirth Kalp" describes this Tirth as Sinha
Nishadhya Prasad which has 4 sides. 3. Gyan Prakash Deeparnave discusses construction of Tirth in detail. 4. Uttar Puran has the description of Jain Tirthankar Rishabhdev and that, his son, King Bharat,
constructed a golden temple with 72 idols of all the three Chovisis (24 Tirthankars of Past,
Present, & Future). 5. Bhagwan Mahavir during his sermon said that any human being, who can scale this mountain
& stay overnight, will attain liberation in his life time. Gautam Swami, 2600 years ago, scaled
this Tirth with his special powers, stayed overnight & worshiped there. 6. Gautam Swami wrote 1st verse of Jag Chintamani Sutra there (Probodh Tika Part 1).
Shadavashyak Balavabodha mentions that he performed Chaitya Vandan with Jag-Chintamani
Sutra. 7. Vasudev Hindi - 21st chapter says this mountain is related to Vaitadhya Mountain, it is 8 miles
in ht & Niyadi River is flowing at the foothills. 8. Jambu Dweep Pragnapti says Ashtapad Mountain is north of Koshal Desh. At the place of
Adinath or Rishabhdev Nirvana, the heavenly god Indra erected 3 Stups. (Sutra 33) 9. As per scriptures, Ashtapad is situated 12.5 yojan north of Ayodhya & on a clear morning, one
can see & have Darshan from a tree top. 10. Siddhanam Buddhanam Siddhastav Sutra describes the sitting arrangement of idols as
"Chattari Aattha Das Doy (Four, Eight, Ten, and Two) Vandiya Jeenvara Chovisam". 11. "Ashtapad Kalpa (old)", written by Purvacharya (Ancient Acharyas) describes in detail the
importance of this place & all the events that took place. 12. Hemchandracharya in "Trishashti Shalaka Purush Charitra" describes Ashtapad in detail.
Chapter 10 says one who climbs the mountain with his spiritual powers (labhdhi) and stays
there overnight can get liberated in the same life. 13. Dhaneshwar Suri writes in Shatrunjay Mahatmya, that King Bharat constructed a palace with
the help of Varddhaki Ratna near the Nirvana Bhoomi of Bhagwan Rishabhdev. 14. According to Abhidhan Chintamani, Mount Kailash has many names: Rajatadri, Ashtapad,
Sfatikachal, Haradri, and Dhawalgiri. (ref 4-94).

15. Shahajanand Dhanji in his letters says that the 3 Chovisi idols (Total 72 idols of past present
& future Chovisi) are buried under the snow & some Tirthankar idols are under the control of
Buddhist monks. 16. As per the Jain scriptures, we have Avasarpini and Utsarpini era of the time cycle. Each era

Development of Concept - Ratna Mandir
The Jain center of America Inc., in New York, has constructed a new building for its temple and other religious activities. As a tribute to 24 Tirthankars, it is customary to make idols of 24 Tirthankars in a temple and place them around Gabhara (Main place of worship in a temple). We wanted to install Shri Chovisi (24 idols of Tirthankaras) in the Bhamati area but due to lack of space this could not be done.

Meanwhile we saw couple of idols carved from gemstones in our office and thought of making 24 idols out of gemstone and house them in Ratna Mandir around the Gabhara wall on 2nd floor. This would need a much smaller space. At this stage a preliminary design of the Ratna Mandir was drawn.

While the idea of the Ratna Mandir was taking shape, one happened to visit a temple in Jaipur (India) and saw an Ashtapad PAT; this was the turning point from the "Ratna Mandir" concept into "Ashtapad”. Now our energies were focused on one thought: How to morph “Ratna Mandir" into "Shri Ashtapad" this led us to research further into the facts about "Shri Ashtapad".

A mountain should be carved out of crystal stones that could provide the look and feel of the snowcovered mountain. Provide eight steps at the base as per name of Ashtapad (8 steps) and 24 niches (Gokhalas) for Shri Chovisi in the center of the mountain. That would fulfill the desire of "Ratna Mandir". The whole structure would be assembled to appear as a mountain. Thus the idea of making a model of "Shri Ashtapad" with "Ratna Mandir" Chovisi (24 Tirthankar idols) installed on the Ashtapad Mountain was born.

Development of Ashtapad Design
The original design of Ashtapad was four sided as per the picture given, also called Sarvatomukhi - Omni-directional. (Gyan Prakash Deeparnave).

The sitting arrangement of idols in multiple rows as shown in the photos was done as per the following verse (Shloka) from scripture;

-सिद्धाणं बुद्धाणं सूत्र चत्तारि अट्ठ दश गाथाना जुदा जुदा अर्थोचार दक्षिण दिशामां, आठ पश्चिम दिशामां, दश उत्तर दिशामां, अने बे पूर्व दिशामां, एम अष्टापद उपर वंदन करायेला अने जेमणे परमार्थने (मोक्ष) संपूर्ण सिद्ध कर्यो छे तेवा चोवीस तीर्थंकरो मने सिद्धि आपो. अथवा चार उपरनी मेखलामां, आठ वच्चेनी मेखलामां, दश नीचेनी मेखलामां, अने बे सौथी नीचेनी मेखलामां, ए प्रमाणे पण अष्टापद उपर वंदन थाय छे.
This verse indicates that the four Tirthankars are sitting at upper level (numbers 3 to 6), eight at the middle level (numbers 7 to 14), ten at the lower level (numbers 15 to 24), and two at the lowest level (number 1 and 2). This way the idol positions were determined for a unidirectional unit in four horizontal rows, one above the other. Dimensions of the idols will vary as per available space in each row.
Space constraint forced us to make a unidirectional unit viewable only from the front. Now an architectural blueprint was developed to a scale based on the available space accordingly. Height and width of the mountain (Ht 13.1" x W 14'.7" D 5'.1") were determined. We also installed a sky light at the top to give an effect of the Ashtapad Mountain being open to the sky. We added Kailash and Mansarovar photos in the background and the ceiling was painted in blue with clouds to give a special effect of Ashtapad in Kailash area open to the sky.

The weight of the crystal, which is about 10 tons became a structural challenge. Overriding constraint was the weight bearing capacity of the temple on the 4th floor. Permissible weight was not to exceed 10 tons. A steel frame weighing one ton was designed in Jaipur to hold the whole structure. There are eight layers, one above the other, in the steel framing. As this is a mountain the slope was taken into consideration. The whole structure has 5.1' depth at the bottom but only 0.75' depth at the top.

3 engineers, 2 architects, and Ashtapad Team members took part in final designing of the frame. It took almost 3 years to come to a final framing design.

Making of Crystal Mountain
Steps, Gokhlas and Shikhar
The mountain is the main body and is made of crystal quartz. Various blocks of crystal (59), each weighing 75 to 750 lbs, were assembled to replicate the appearance of a real mountain & to provide a sloping pattern on the front and on the sides as in a mountain. Eight steps were constructed in the center leading to the first row of the Gokhala. 24 Gokhalas were sculpted in the mountain itself where the idols will be installed. Model #5 was the first model carved in crystal, which was 1/5th size of the final model.
The mountain consists of eight layers of crystal blocks. First two layers are for steps, next four are for idols and last two layers are for Shikhar.

Ashtapad has derived its name from the fact that it has eight steps. 8 steps were carved at the bottom of the mountain in the center. Above that 4 layers of Gokhlas were carved as per the scripture.
A design with regular carving was done in the beginning but later on a Asht Pratiharya design was added and hence all 24 Gokhalas have a Asht Pratiharya design. Individual Yaksh Yakshini are carved at the base next to the Sinhasan.
A five Shikhar design has been added at the top to give the whole structure, the appearance of a temple. All Shikhars are carved as per the design in the scripture, and will be adorned with gold kalash. The Dhwaja (flag) will be at the top in the center. Mountain & Shri Chovisi will be illuminated from the front using LED lights. As well as it will be illuminated from the back using color lights, giving it an amazing effect.

Shri Ashtapad Maha Tirth
There are many legends associated with Shri Ashtapad Tirth, out of which the following 24 have been depicted in individual carved units. Related stories are briefly narrated separately. Initially, the stories were carved in a two-dimensional design at the base, on the sides of the mountain, in the first two prototypes. As the concept matured, these carvings depicting various stories related to Shri Ashtapad were developed into separate three-dimensional carved units.
Janma Kalyanak
During the third era, King Nabhiraj and Queen Marudevi ruled over Bharat Kshetra. The Queen gave birth to a son named Rishabha. Shri Rishabh became King, ruling well and teaching various skills to his people. As his life went by, Rishabh decided to renounce worldly life. He donated all his possessions and became a monk.
Varsi Tap Parna
As a monk, Rishabhdev wandered from house to house for thirteen months. People offered him gold and other valuables, not knowing that he would only accept food. It wasn't until Rishabhdev reached the city of Hastinapur in northern India; at that time King Shreyans Kumar bowed down and offered Rishabhdev fresh sugarcane juice as Gochari. Since then, the Varsi Tap (penance) and the corresponding fast breaking ceremony of drinking sugar cane juice during Parna have been followed.
Bharat Chakravarti
Bharat was the eldest son of Rishabhdev. After his father renounced the throne, Bharat became the King. When King Bharat heard about Rishabhdev Bhagwan's nirvana, he went to Ashtapad to pay homage. There, Bharat not only constructed a gemstone-studded palace, but also installed the idols of the 24 Tirthankaras as Rishabhdev had described in his sermon.
Areesa Mahal
King Bharat was looking in the mirror in his palace. When one of the rings fell off of his finger, King Bharat saw his bare finger and wondered what he would look like without any ornamentation. As he removed all his jewelrv. he realized his material possessions were creating the illusion of beauty & that true beauty comes from within. With his newfound awareness, King Bharat entered deep thought, where he was able to destroy all his Ghati Karma & reach Keval-Jnan. -35 421

When Bhagwan Mahavir established the Chaturvidha Sangha, Indrabhuti Gautam was his first disciple. Bhagwan Mahavir said in his sermon, "A person who scales Ashtapad & offers prayers to 24 Tirthankars attains Moksha in the same life." When Gautam Swami heard this, he requested permission from Bhagwan Mahavir to go to Ashtapad. With the help of spiritual power, Gautam Swami scaled Ashtapad Mountain by holding onto sunrays as a rope. He offered his prayers to 24 Tirthankars & compiled the first verse of Jag-Chintamani Sutram.

Tapas Kheer Parna
When Gautam Swami arrived at the bottom of the Ashtapad Mountain, he saw 3 ascetics, with 500 disciples each trying to scale Mount Ashtapad, who could not climb more than 3 steps. Next morning when he came down, all 1503 Tapas were impressed by his achievement and wanted to be his disciples. Due to their earnest desire he initiated them. As all the Tapas were fasting for 3 days, Gautam Swami arranged Kheer (rice cooked in milk) for Parna. Even though the quantity of Kheer was not enough, due to his spiritual power he could feed Kheer to all of them by putting his thumb in the vessel. Upon arrival, they saw Mahavir Swami in Samavasaran, and Gautam Swami asked all Tapas to sit along with other Sadhu. Then Bhagwan Mahavir said, "Gautam! You need to bow to these Kevalis." Now Gautam Swami realized that all Tapas had become Kevali.
Tiryank Jrumbhak Dev That night a heavenly god named Vaishraman (Tiryank Jrumbhak dev, in one of the previous life of a great sage Vajra-swami) also came there to worship. He saw Gautam Swami who looked very handsome and healthy. He thought how can this monk do penance and still look this healthy. Gautam Swami read his mind and told the story of Pundarik and Kandarik and explained that an emaciated body is not the indication of penance. But to control the soul through meritorious meditation is real penance. This way he cleared the doubt of the heavenly god.

Nag Kumar & Sagar's sons
King Sagar had sixty thousand sons who went to Mount Ashtapad and prayed to all 24 Tirthankars. In order to protect the temple, they dug a big trench all around the mountain that disturbed the King of serpents who lived there. Nag Kumar Dev was very angry, but when the Princes apologized to Nag Kumar he pardoned them & went away. The princes thought the trench will be filled up over the period, so they decided to fill it up with holy water from the Ganges & disturbed Nag Kumar Dev again, so he came out & burned all 60,000 princes to ashes.
CONNU
Ravan & Bali Muni King Ravan was flying over Mount Ashtapad when his Viman suddenly stopped because Ravan had failed to pay respect to a monk named Bali Muni, who was meditating there. This angered Ravan as he remembered his previous revenge. So he decided to uproot the whole mountain and throw it in the ocean along with Bali Muni. With his special Avadhi-Jnan knowledge, Bali knew what Ravan was planning so he held down the mountain by pressing with his toe. Ravan was unable to handle the pressure and begged for forgiveness.
Ravan & Mandodari Bhakti Ravan and his wife Mandodari went to Mount Ashtapad to pray. Mandodari started dancing while Ravan started playing the Veena, a musical instrument. When a string from the Veena accidentally broke, Ravan pulled a vein from his thigh, replaced the broken string, and continued playing the Veena. Afterwards they performed pooja & offered prayers to the idols. Thus Ravan earned Tirthankar Nam-karma, ensuring a place in the future Chovisi.
Rani Veermati While traveling King Mamman and Queen Veermati met a monk named Muniraj who was on his way to Ashtapad Tirth. Since then, Queen Veermati wanted to visit Ashtapad Tirth and pray there. After the Queen completed a long penance, Shasan Devi, a goddess, assisted Veermati to Ashtapad. The Queen prayed to all 24 Tirthankaras and placed a gemstone studded gold tilak on the forehead of all the idols. In a later life, as Queen Damayanti, her forehead was glowing like the ruby tilak that she had previously adorned on all the Tirthankaras. $$ 423 a

Research and Field Trips
Jain Center of America Inc., New York (JCA) has constructed a model of Ashtapad. This Center is interested in locating Ashtapad Maha Tirth and Ashtapad Mountain. Three research trips were organized by JCA to visit and research the Kailash Mansarovar area from 2006 to 2009. The main objectives of this excursion were to:
1. Add depth and breadth to the research already conducted. 2. Find the location/existence of Ashtapad as described in scripture. 3. Prove the existence of Ashtapad geographically and archaeologically.
Ashtapad Research International Foundation (ARIF)
In recent history, no one has witnessed the actual Ashtapad Tirth as described in the scriptures. Pilgrims and visitors travel to the mountain where this Tirth is believed to be hidden somewhere. Many individuals and organizations are involved in research to unravel the mysteries of this legendry place.
We are currently working on the following: • We are collecting literature on Ashtapad from scripture & have put it in XX volumes. It
includes details on Ashtapad, pooja, stavans, exhibits, research etc. • An index booklet with cross-references from XX Volumes
Ashtapad Parichaya Pustika and pamphlet regarding Ashtapad Maha Tirth (Ratna Mandir)
in English, Hindi & Gujarati have been published. • We are working on 10% selection of articles to put them in two volumes.
Collection of literature and research material is available in DVD formats. We are publishing articles on Ashtapad on and off for information to public. The Ashtapad Model - a replica and all 3 Chovisi (72 idols of Tirthankars) & other idols
were exhibited in many major cities where there was a tremendous turn out. • Making of Ashtapad & research trip to Kailash video was very well received. • We held 3 seminars at Ahmedabad & Mumbai & planning an International one. • We have visited Dharamshala and we are coordinating the studies from Tibetan literature
and Bon Po- the indigenous religion of Tibet at that time. • We have already undertaken 3 field trips to KM region to do preliminary research.
Satellite studies have helped us a lot in trying to locate the buried structure. We are also
trying to get high resolution satellite data for better interpretation. • We are preparing a proposal for research which will be sent to many research institutions
globally & to International Geological Correlation Program at UN.

Kailash Mountain also known as KANG RIM POCHE is 25 miles north of Mansarovar up in the Himalayas. Between Mansarovar (Padma Had) and Kailash, about 5-7 miles North-East, is another mountain called Ashtapad.

Conclusion: Shri Adinath era was the dawning of world civilization & if located, it will tell us about early growth of human civilization. This will open a new chapter on world history and will become a potential source of information about religion and culture of that period.

સદીઓ પુરાણા જૈન ધર્મની ભારતીય પ્રારંભ થયો હતો. જેમાં હેમરલ, રૂબી, બાદ પ્રતિમાઓને સીધી ન્યુયોર્ક લઈ સમાજમાં એક વિશિષ્ટ પ્રતિભા ઉપસી ટોપાઝ, મરકસ, એમએસસીસ વગેરે જવામાં આવશે. છે. ભગવાન મહાવીરના સિદ્ધાંતોને સાચા રત્નોનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવ્યો. સામાન્ય રીતે ભગવાનની પ્રતિમાઓ સંપૂર્ણ વરેલા જૈન સમાજ અત્યાધુનિક

जैन इंटरनेशनल ट्रेड आर्गेनाईजेशन (जीतो) के प्रणेता व गणिवर्य नयपदम सागर म. का कहना है कि जैन धर्म विश्व का सबसे प्राचीन धर्म है। वे यहां नेहरू इनडोर स्टेडियम में रविवार को जीतो के पदाधिकारियों को शपथ दिलाने से पहले मुथुत देश की सीमाओं से परे हैं। यह आत्मा फाइनेंस के चेयरमैन एम. जी. जॉर्ज की पवित्रता व विश्वास को मानता के भाषण के दौरान जैन धर्म को है और पूरी तरह से निष्पक्ष है। मुनि सबसे प्राचीन बताए जाने का हवाला ने इस मौके पर जीतो की नई दे रहे थे। कार्यकारिणी के पदाधिकारियों को मनि ने स्मरण दिलाया कि जब शपथ दिलाई।

RARE MINIATURE ON DISPLAY AT JAIN TEMPLE
TIMES NEWS NETWORK AHMEDABED: A miniature model of the largest-ever Ashtapad Tirth of its kind, comprising idols of 72 Jain Tirthankars made of precious and semi-precious stones, is on display at the Hutheesing Jain Temple here, this weekend.
The original Tirth, which will be set up in New York in 2006, is under construction and 14.5 feet in breadth, it is being made of 80 kinds of precious and semi-precious stones.
The raw material is mostly being imported and 30 tonnes of crystal has been acquired from Brazil, of which 12 tonnes will be used for the Tirth.
The stones being unique and colourful, a miniature modeal is being displaye at various Jain temples in Palitana, Surat, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

અષ્ટાપદ મહાતીર્થનું રહસ્ય ઉકેલવા વ્યાપક સંશોધનની
કે
જૈનોના ત્રેવીસ તીર્થંકરો જ્યા નિર્વાણ પામ્યા તે પર્વતો ગિરનાર, પાવાપુરી, સમેતશિખર અને ચંપાપુરીનું ઠેકાણું તો મળે છે અને આ તીર્થો જૈનોની યાત્રા અને છે ભક્તિથી સભર પણ રહે છે. પરંતુ સૌથી પહેલા તીર્થંકર આદિનાથજી ઋષભદેવ જ્યાં નિર્વાણ પામ્યા હતા તે અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ ક્યાં છે તે આજે પણ એક કોયડો છે. પ્રાચીન સંઘોમાં આધારભૂત રીતે સાદ તીર્થનો ઉલ્લેખ છે પરંતુ આ તીર્થ ક્યાં છે તે સ્પષ્ટ રીત જાણવા મળી શક્યું નથી. અમદાવાદમાં આજે આ વિષય પર વિમર્શ માટે સેમીનાર યોજવામાં આવ્યો હતો.
અમદાવાદ, શનિવાર યાત્રા દરમિયાન નદી પર્વત જોયા અને તેમને લાગ્યું કે આ કુદરતી નહીં પરંતુ માનવસર્જિત ભવંત છે અને શક્ય છે કે અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ અહી હોય. ઉલ્લેખનીય છે નંદી એ તીર્થંકર ઋષભદેવનું લાંછન છે. પોતાની માન્યતા અને શોધને આગળ ચલાવતા તેમણે ૧૯૯૬ અને ૧૯૯૮માં ફરીથી કૈલાસની મુલાકાત લીધી જેમાં તેમણે બીજા યાત્રીઓથી અલગ પઈને એક ગાઇડ લઈ સંશોધન કર્યું. આ માટે તેમણે લેખિત બોન્ડ પણ લખી આપવો પડ્યો. શ્રી શક્કે આ વિસ્તારોના પુષ્કળ ફોટોગ્રાફ પણ લીધા છે કે તેમણે આર્કિયોલોજી વિભાગને બતાવ્યા તો વિભાગ તરફથી એમ કહેવામાં આવ્યું કે આ ફોટામાંના પર્વત કુદરતી રીતે રચાયેલા છે. પરંતુ શ્રી શાહનું કહેવું છે કે જે રીતે ચીકીનો પીરામીડ કુદરતી માનવામાં આવતા હતા પરંતુ માનવસર્જિત હોવાનું પછીથી સિદ્ધ થયું છે. તેવુંજ આ કિસ્સામાં બનવા જોગ છે. તેમનું કહેવુ છે કે અષ્ટાપદના સ્થળે ઋષભદેવના પુત્રો અને દસ હજાર અનુયાયીઓની હાજરી હતી, આ એક વિરાટ તીર્થ ક્ષેત્ર હતું. અહીં બરમાં હાલ ૭૨ જિનાલયો દટાયેલા પડ્યા હોવાનો એક માન્યતા છે,

અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ આદિ તીર્થંકર શ્રી તિબેટના બરફમાં ૭૨ જિનાલયો દટાયેલા હોવાનું
ગ્રંથોમાંથી નીકળતી કડી મુજબ અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ હાલના તિબેટના કૈલાસ માનસરોવર વિસ્તારમાં હોવાનું મનાય છે. ભરત હંસરાજ શાહ નામના ભાઈએ અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ શોધવા માટે પાછલા વર્ષોમાં ત્રણ વખત કૈલાસ માનસરોવરની મુલાકાત લીધી છે. આજે પરિસંવાદમાં તેમના લીધેલા સંભવિત અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થના ફોટોગ્રાફ બતાવ્યા હતા. તેમનું કહેવું છે કે ૧૯૯૩માં જ્યારે તેઓ સૌ પ્રથમ વખત કૈલાસ યાત્રાએ ગયા ત્યારે તેમને અપાયેલા સરકારી પુસ્તકામાં અષ્ટાપદનો ઉલ્લેખ હતો. તેમણે કૈલાસ
મંદિરો અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થના વર્ણન સાથે મેળ ધરાવે છે.

ઋષભદેવજીના પુત્ર ચક્રવર્તી ભરતે સ્થાપ્યું હતું. તેમણે અહી રત્નજડિત મહેલ આધ્યો હતો જેમાં જૈન તીર્થંકરોની ૨૪ મૂર્તિઓ હતી. આજે યોજાયેલા પરિસંવાદમાં ડો. ક્ષતા બોધરાને તેમના સંશોધનના આધારે એવી માહિતી આપી હતી કે પ્રાચીન સુમેરુ મંદિરો અને અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થના વર્ણન વચ્ચે સામ્યતા જોવા મળે છે. રાજસ્થાનના ભાજપના જૈન સંસદસભ્ય શ્રી પુષ્પ જેને કહ્યું હતું કે પોતે નાપદના સંશોધનકામમાં તમામ મદદ કરવા તૈયાર છે. ભારત ચીન મૈત્રી સંપનો ઉપયોગ માત્ર વ્યાપાર વિષયક વાતો માટે નહીં પણ આવી સાસ્કૃતિક બાબતો માટે પણ થઈ શકે. અષ્ટાપદ માટે કૈલાસ જવા સંશોોની ટીમ રવાના થાય તો પોતે પણ તેમાં જોડાવાની તેમજ ચીન સરકાર સાથે વાત કરવા માટે સેતુરૂપ બનવાની તૈયારી બતાવી હતી. જેન સેન્ટર ઓફ અમેરિકા યોજિત આ પરિસંવાદમાં અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ વિશે વ્યાપક સંશોધનને પ્રોત્સાહન આપવાનું, આ તીર્થ અંગે શાસ્ત્રાધારિત સંશોધનોને પુસ્તકરૂપે પ્રકાશિત કરવાનું, મે ૨૦૦૬ના અખાત્રીજમાં ન્યૂયોર્કમાં અષ્ટાપદજી મહાતીર્થની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવાનું અને અષ્ટાપદ તીર્ષ વિશે જૈનોમાં જાગૃતિ આણવાનું નક્કી કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. મનાય છે. પ્રાચીન સુમેરુ

ઘણા લોકોએ બનાવ્યો છે, પણ શાસ્ત્રોમાં જ્યાં જ્યાં હતો, પણ લોકોને વેપારીઓના સ્ટૉલ્સ
આ તીર્થનો ઉલ્લેખ છે એનો તલસ્પર્શી અભ્યાસ કરતાં જૈન મૂર્તિ, જૈન શિલ્પ અને જૈન વારસાની
કર્યા બાદ શાસ્ત્રોમાંનાં વર્ણન પ્રમાણે જ અમે અષ્ટપદની માહિતી આપતો વિભાગ એટલે કે જૈન પેવિલિયનમાં
રચના કરી છે. બીજું, આટલા મોટા કદનો પહાડ લટાર મારવાનું વધુ ગમતું હતું.

એ કહે છે કે અમે પાંચ વર્ષથી અષ્ટપદ તૈયાર ઑર્ગેનાઈઝેશન (જિતો)ના આ વેપારમેળાને જોવા
કરતા હતા. પહેલાં અમે દસ મોડેલ બનાવ્યાં અને હજારો જૈન અને જૈનેતરો ઊમટી પડ્યા હતા. જો કે
પછી કામ શરૂ કર્યું. અમે સાધુ-સંતોની સલાહ લીધી એમાંના અમુક તો એવા હતા કે એમને માત્ર જૈન
છે. ત્રીસ ટનના પથ્થરમાંથી દસ ટનનું આ તીર્થ પેવિલિયનમની અભુત મૂર્તિ અને ચિત્રો જોવામાં જ લત પહાડનાં ટિંધ્ય પ્રતજ્ઞતા કોતરવામાં આવ્યું. એની ઊંચાઈ આશરે તેર ફૂટ અને રસ હતો.
ઊંડાઈ પાંચ ફૂટ જેટલી છે. જૈન પેવિલિયનમાં પ્રદર્શિત અસંખ્ય ચીજોમાં સૌથી આકર્ષણનું કેન્દ્ર અષ્ટપદ શુદ્ધ ક્રિસ્ટલ (સ્ફટિક)માંથી બનાવવામાં આવેલા આ પહાડની પ્રતિકૃતિ પર્વત હતો. જૈનો માટે આ પર્વતનું બહુ ધાર્મિક મહત્ત્વ છે. કેલાસ માનસરોવર પાછળ કેટલાનો ખર્ચ થયો એનો આંકડો રાકેશભાઈ આપવાનું ટાળે છે. વિસ્તારમાં આ પર્વત હતો, જે અત્યારે લુપ્ત થઈ ગયો છે. એ પર્વત પર જૈનોના જૈન પેવિલિયમાં અમુક રત્ન કે પથ્થરનાં નામ કોઈએ ન સાંભળ્યાં હોય પ્રથમ તીર્થકર આદિનાથ ભગવાનનું નિર્વાણ થયું હતું. એમના નિર્વાણ બાદ એમાંથી તૈયાર કરવામાં આવેલી મૂર્તિ પણ અહીં પ્રદર્શિત કરવામાં આવેલી. એ એમના પુત્ર ચક્રવર્તી રાજા ભરતે ત્યાં રત્નોનો મહેલ બનાવેલો. મહેલમાં દાખલ ઉપરાંત, એક્ઝિબિશનમાં બેનમૂન જૈન ચિત્રો અને શિલ્પ જોઈને પણ લોકો થવા માટે આઠ પગથિયાં હતાં એટલે એ અષ્ટપદ તરીકે ઓળખાય છે. गगह थ गयेक्षा

दिनेश मोहनोत एवं राकेश मोहनोत इन्टरनेशनल ट्रेड फेयर के तहत जैन से कई मूर्तियां मारबल से बनी प्रतीत यहां प्रतिमाओं को देखने आए इन सभी प्रतिमाओं के बारे में यहां पैवेलियन विशेष आकर्षण का केन्द्र होती है लेकिन इनमें कोई भी मूर्ति राजस्थान एसोसिएसन के विजय आने वाले दर्शकों को विशेष बना हुआ है। जैन पैवेलियन में जैन मारबल से नहीं बनी है। कुमार बाफना ने बताया कि ऐसा जानकारी उपलब्ध करा रहे हैं। उन्होंने कला एवं संस्कृति को प्रदर्शित किया नवगह भी आकर्षण का
संग्रह कहीं देखने को नहीं मिलता। बताया कि अब तक ऐसी 10 गया है।
वाकई यह बेहतरीन कलेक्शन है और प्रदर्शनियां लगाई जा चुकी हैं। इस इस पैवेलियन में आठवीं एवं दसवीं कन्द्र
इसे सभी को देखना चाहिए।
प्रदर्शनी स्थल को देखने से मंदिर नुमा शताब्दी की जैन रत्न प्रतिमाएं एवं
रूप ही लगता है। बीच में एक कतार से सभी 24
भी जैन पेंटिंग को विशेष रूप से सजाया वहीं नवग्रह (जैन) भी लोगों के लिए मन को छू रही प्रतिमाए गया है। यह प्रतिमाएं विभिन्न स्थानों रूचि का विषय बना हुआ है। सबसे आकर्षक भाग यहां सात फीट तीर्थंकर की प्रतिमाएं एक कतार में से यहां लाई गई है।
पदमावती की तीनों प्रतिमाएं क्रिस्टल का स्फटिक का अष्ठापद है। ऐसा सजाई गई है। वहीं दोनों तरफ दीवार चौबीस जैन तीर्थंकरों की करीब 200 की बनी हुई है। यहां समूचे विश्व भर
कहा जाता है कि कैलाश मानसरोवर के सहारे भी 50-50 प्रतिमाएं रखी से अधिक प्रतिमाएं लोगों के लिए का संग्रह रखा हुआ है। विशेष बात में पहले अष्ठापद था दोलप्त हो गया। गई हैं। यह सभी प्रतिमाएं पन्ना, खास आकर्षण का केन्द्र बनी हुई है। यह है कि इसमें भारत का संग्रह एक इसके साथ ही यहां अष्ठापद के साथ माणक, नीलम, मोती, पुखराज समेत मोहनोत जेम्स जयपर की ओर से ये भी प्रतिमा में नहीं है। अफ्रांका, की कहानियां भी बनाई गई है। इन अन्य की बनी हुई है। इसके अलावा प्रतिमाएं तैयार की गई है। इन मूर्तियों ब्राजील, पाकिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान, अष्ठापद में 24 तीर्थकर की प्रतिमाएं यहां पदमावती देवी की तीन प्रतिमाएं में 160 से अधिक वैरायटी के जापान, इंडोनेशिया समेत अन्य देशों लगी है। यह मनमोहक दृश्य हर आने भी रखी गई है।

સૂર્યોર્ક શહેરમાં ગરૉરાજ અષ્ટાપતંજીનું રજમોઢેર !
લંકાપતિ રાવણ-મંદોદરી પ્રભુ સમક્ષ નૃત્ય દરમ્યાન ભાવવિભોર થયા અને તિર્થંકરનામ કર્મ બાંધ્યું. પ્રાચીન ગ્રંથોમાંથી મળતા વર્ણનને આધારે આ અર્વાચીન, અદ્યતન સમયમાં સ્ફટિક પથ્થરમાંથી કોતરીને અષ્ટાપદ પર્વત તૈયાર કરાયો. આ રત્નમંદિરનો સ્ફટિક કુદરતી, પારદર્શક અને પ્રકાશ પસાર થાય તેવા રંગનો છે !
ન્યુયોર્કની અથાગા સ્ટ્રીટમાં આવેલા જૈન સેન્ટર ઓફ અમેરિકા (ન્યુયોર્ક)ના ભવ્ય દેરાસરમાં શ્રી અષ્ટાપદજી મહોત્સવ ઊજવાયો. ૨૦મી જૂન, રવિવારે યોજાયેલો આ પ્રતિષ્ઠા મહોત્સવ એ એક આગવો પ્રતિષ્ઠા મહોત્સવ હતો અને એનાં બે કારણ છે. એક છે હિમાલયની ગોદમાં ક્યાંક લુપ્તા થયેલા શ્રી અષ્ટાપદ મહાતીર્થનું પાવન સ્મરણ અને એનું બીજું કારણ છે આ અષ્ટાપદ રત્નમંદિરની અત્યંત મૂલ્યવાન એવી ૨૪પ્રતિમાઓ.. હિમાલયની ગોદમાં આવેલો આ અષ્ટાપદ પર્વત આજે મળતો નથી. એ પર્વત તે જૈન ધર્મના પ્રથમ તીર્થક ૨ ભગવાન ઋષભદેવના પુત્ર ભરત ચક્રવર્તીએ અહીં પિતૃસ્મૃતિ રૂપે સિંહનિષદ્યા નામનો અસલી રત્નજડિત મહેલ બનાવ્યો હતો. આ પર્વતનું નામ અષ્ટાપદ એ માટે પડ્યું કે તેના પર જવા માટે અષ્ટ એટલે આઠ પગ કે ચરણ છે. પ્રાચીન ગ્રંથોમાં એના રજતાદ્રિ, સ્ફટિકાચલ, હરાદિ જેવાં નામો પ્રાપ્ત થાય
છે. પવિત્ર કે લાસ પર્વતની પાસે અમેરિકાના ન્યુયોર્ક શહેરમાં અભૂત રત્નમંદિરનો સ્ફટિક અષ્ટાપદ
માન સરોવર ન જી ક આવે લ એ પર્વત જેમાં ૨૪ તિર્થંકરોની મણી-માણેકની મૂર્તિ બિરાજમાન છે.. અષ્ટાપદતીર્થ આજે અસ્તિત્વમાં નથી. આજે જૈન સેન્ટર ઓફ અમેરિકા (ન્યુયોર્ક)ના આરાધના ભવનમાં શ્રી અષ્ટાપદ મહાતીર્થ રત્નમંદિરની પ્રતિષ્ઠા થઈ રહી છે. ક્યાં હિમાલયની ગોદમાં, ધરતીની અંદર છુપાયેલું અષ્ટાપદ અને ક્યાં અમેરિકાના ન્યુ યોર્ક શહેરની ઇથાકા સ્ટ્રીટમાં સર્જન પામેલું અષ્ટાપદ. એ પ્રાચીન અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થ કેવું હશે, તેની પ્રાર્ટીન ગ્રંથને આધારે કલ્પના કરવામાં આવી.
ન્યુયોર્કના રત્નમંદિરનો સ્ફટિક કુદરતી, પારદર્શક અને પ્રકાશ પસાર થઈ શકે તેવા રંગમાં પ્રાપ્ત થયો. પરિણામે પર્વત બરફથી છવાયેલો હોય તેવો દેખાવ ઊભો કરી શકાયો. વળી જૈન સેન્ટરના સૌથી ઉપરના માળે બારીઓ અને તેમાંથી આવતા પ્રકાશને કારણે પાછળ ખુલ્લા આકાશનો અનુભવ થઈ શકે તેવી રચના થઈ. એ પછી ઉપલબ્ધ સ્થાન અનુસાર વાસ્તુશાસ્ત્રની દૃષ્ટિએ વાસ્તવિક પ્રમાણમાં અષ્ટાપદ મહાતીર્થનો નકશો તૈયાર કરવામાં આવ્યો. પ્રાચીન અષ્ટાપમાં ચૌમુખી પ્રતિમાઓ હતી, પરંતુ અહીં ન્યુયોર્કમાં જગ્યાની મર્યાદાને કારણે એક દિશામાં પ્રતિમાઓ રાખવામાં આવી. પર્વતની ઊંચાઈ અને પહોળાઈનું પ્રમાણ પણ ઉપલબ્ધ સ્થાન અનુસાર કરવામાં આવ્યું. પ્રાચીન ગ્રંથોના વર્ણનને આધારે ન્યુ યોર્કના આ અષ્ટાપદ રત્નમંદિરમાં એક પછી એક ચાર હરોળમાં તીર્થકર ભગવાનોની મૂર્તિઓ ગોઠવવામાં આવી અને પર્વતમાં એને માટેના ગોખલાઓ કોતરીને એમાં મૂર્તિ મૂકવામાં આવી. ન્યુયોર્કના આ અષ્ટાપદ મહાતીર્થના સમગ્ર અષ્ટાપદપર્વતનું વજન ૧૦ ટન જેટલું થાય છે. આ અષ્ટાપદપર્વતબિલીરપથ્થરમાંથી બનેલો છે. એને જદાદાસાઠભાગથી જોડીને બનાવવામાં આવ્યો છે. તેમાં પણ અષ્ટાપદપરનાં સૂર્યકિરણો દર્શાવવા માટે લેસરનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવ્યો છે. પર્વતના ઢોળાવનો આકાર અને એની આસપાસનું જીવંત વાતાવરણ પણ રચવામાં આવ્યું છે અને હવે એ અષ્ટાપદપર્વતનો મનોરમ શિખર પર સુંદર અને કળામય કળશ તેમ જ ધ્વજ મૂકવામાં આવશે. આ પર્વતનાવિભિન્ન આકારના ચોવીસ ગોખલા છે, જે બિલ્લોર, રોઝક્વાર્ટસ, નૈલ અકીક અને મરગજવગેરે કીમતી પથ્થરોના બનેલા છે. આમાં બે ઘણા મોટા છે. ચાર મોટા, આઠ મધ્યમ પ્રમાણના અને દસ નાના છે. એક ગોખલામાં બે સ્તંભ અને એક છત્રી છે. આગળના સ્તંભોમાં ચામરધારી પ્રભુભક્તની પ્રભાવક દશ્યાવલિ ઉપસાવવામાં આવી છે.ગોખલાઓમાં અત્યંત કમનીય રીતે અષ્ટપ્રતિહાર્યની કોતરણી છે.. ચોવીસ તીર્થકરોની ચોવીસ મૂર્તિઓની સાથે એમનાં લાંછનો (પ્રતીકો) પણ કોતરવામાં આવ્યાં છે. આમ જુદા જુદા ચોવીસ રંગના રત્નો જડેલા અમૂલ્ય ચોવીસ મૂર્તિઓ દૃષ્ટિગોચર થાય છે. આ ઉપરાંત કટેલા, સુનેલા, ધુનેલા, પાના, માણેક, મગજ અને અકીક જેવાં રત્નોથી પણ મૂર્તિઓ 'બનાવાઈ છે. રંગીન રત્નોમાં રચિ રાખનાર આટલાં બધાં વૈવિધ્યમય રત્નો જોઈને તાજુબ થઈ જાય છે. વળી આ રંગીન રત્નોમાં થયેલી મૂર્તિઓની કારીગરીમાં ભારતના જયપુરના કળાકારોનો અનેરો કસબ જોવા મળે છે. આમાં અષ્ટાપદ તીર્થને લગતી આઠ પ્રાચીન કથાઓની અલગ અલગ ત્રિઆયામી (થ્રી-ડાયમેન્શન) ધરાવતી શિલ્પાકૃતિ મળે છે, જેમાં ભગવાન ઋષભદેવનું જન્મકલ્યાણક, એમનાં પારણાં, એમનું સમોવસરણ, ચક્રવતી ભરતદેવ, અરીસાંમહેલની કથા, ગીર્તમસ્વામી દ્વારા તાપસીને ખીરનાં પારણાં, ઉપદેશ આપતા ગૌતમસ્વામી અને નાગકુમારની કથા અહીં શિલ્પમાં જીવંત કરવામાં આવી છે. - ડૉ. કુમારપાળ દેસાઈ

મોક્ષમાર્ગની આરાધનામાં તત્પર એવા રજનીભાઈ પરમ તારક પરમાત્માના શાસનને પામેલા સુશ્રાવકોને અવશ્ય રત્નની પ્રતિમા ભરાવવી જ જોઈએ શકિત ન હોય તો સોનાની, ચાંદીની અનુક્રમે ઉતરતા માટીની એક અંગુલ પ્રતિમા ભરાવવી જોઈએ. આપ કેટલા પુણ્યશાળી કે આપને સીધા જ રત્નની પ્રતિમા ભરાવવાના મનોરથ જાગ્યા છે પરમાત્માની આજ્ઞા મુજબ જિનપ્રતિમા અને જિનાલય બાંધી પુણ્યાનુબંધી પુણ્ય બાંધી મોક્ષગામી બનો.
ધરણશાહ અને વિમલ મંત્રીની યાદી અપાવે એવા હે શ્રાવકભાઈ...! | બહુ દીર્ધ ભવિષ્ય વિચારજો. અત્રે દર્શન કરનારા અને શ્રદ્ધાન્વિત થનારા મહાભાગ્યશાળીનો વર્ગ છે. જૈન શાસનનાં દ્રવ્ય-ક્ષેત્ર-કાળ-ભાવની ઉત્તમતા આ ભૂમિને વરેલી છે. અહિંસાનાં પ્રાણ આ ભૂમિમાં સીંચાયેલા છે. વળી શાશ્વત ગિરિરાજ ઉપર પરમાત્માને બિરાજમાન કરી શ્રાવક જ્યાં વસતા હોય ત્યાંથી દર્શન કરવા જાય. તેમ તમો અમેરિકાથી ઈન્ડીયા દર્શન કરવા પધારશો. આપણા પૂર્વનાં મહાન શ્રાવકોએ મહાન વારસા માટે આર્ય દેશ જ પસંદ કર્યો

કલ્પનામાં પણ કલ્પી ન શકાય તેવા હૈયે વસેલા નાથની અજબ સુંદર મુર્તિ ધડનાર કલાકારની કલા કારીગીરી હૈયું હચમચાવી દે તેવી રમ્ય છે. આવી અજબ સુંદર મૂર્તિનાં દર્શન કરવાથી અનંતા પાપ કર્મોનો નાશ થઈ ગયો. એવું લાગે છે કે સાક્ષાત્ દેવાધિદેવના દર્શન થઈ રહ્યાં હોય. આ પ્રતિમાના ધડનારા કલાકારો પણ ધન્ય છે. જે ની કલાકારીગરીથી આપણે આવી પ્રતિમાજીનાં દર્શન કરી શક્યા છીએ.

Introduction for Index
We have been collecting a lot of literature from the scriptures and books related to Ashtapad. We have also been collecting all the research related material including geology and Kailash. Literature on Tirthankar, Nav-Graha and other Ashtapad Tirths have also been put together. Making of Ashtapad Tirth, model making and details about gemstones have also been added. Many exhibits and seminars were held. Those details including visitors' books have been included. Many photos of various ceremonies and maps from the research tour have been added into these volumes.
A cross reference has been added to the original index of all the articles, chapters and volumes. Then all these material have been coded and each subject or topic has been given a special code letter. The codes given are arranged in an alphabetical order from A to Z. These codes have been further subdivided into sub codes as per specific topics, which is included in the code index. It has the language of the articles and page numbers also. This code index has been given in the beginning of this chapter. This has made the presentation of all the material in a more classified and easier manner and easy to look for any specific subject, article and authors.
Further to make the material collected (9000 pages) more interesting and useful, we have selected few important articles and given them a color shade. We have not printed the master index of all volumes here in the granth, only a list of selected articles with cross reference along with codes in this chapter to make it easier to refer.
Now the master index with cross reference and code index is given in volume XX, chapter 157. To make it more user-friendly this has also been included in a DVD where one can go and filter out article of their choice on any subject.
We have also given a list of authors whose articles have been included in this collection of XX volumes. Each author has been given a specific numerical code to make it easier to identify their articles from all xx volumes.
After chapter VIII we have given a list of books from which all this material has been collected and put together in XX volumes. Some of these granths are also available on www.jainaelibrary.com which reader can refer to.
