is called ever-abiding or constant (dhruva), eternal (nitya)and allpervading (vibhu) in the Upanişads.109 Asanga also describes reality in similar words.110 The freed man is known as Kāmācāra i.e. who has unlimited freedom in all worlds in the Chandogya Upanisad, 111 The same word is used by Asanga in the same sense. 112
Upanisadic influence on Vijñānavāda in general and Mahāyānasūtrālańkāra in particular was observed by critics of Vijñānavāda. They pointed out that Vijñāna or pure consciousness of the Vijñānavādins is nothing but Ātman of the heretics-tirthankaras in disguise.
