- 12. of a number of important works on the Buddhist Tantras during the last seven years. The biannual publication of the project, i. e., the research journal Dhih, was also released quite regularly. In spite of all this steady progress, the work of preparing a critical edition of the remaining portion of the Vimalaprabhu took much longer time than expected. Our readers are aware that the first volume comprised the first and the second Patalas of the Kalacakra Tantra and the Vimala prabha. The present volume, consisting of the third and the fourth Patalas, is now being presented in the same manner as before. The second volume of the Kalacak ra Tantra with the Vimalaprabha has been prepared on the basis of six Sanskrit manuscripts and the Tibetan Translation of the same, the details of which have been given in the Preface to the present volume. In 1985, a critical edition of the Kalacakra Tantra prepared by Dr. Biswanath Banerjee was published from Calcutta. This edition has also been used for critically editing the original verses of the Kalacakra Tantra. We express our indebtedness to all those institutions and individuals who offered their unforgetable assistance in procuring the manuscript material required for this edition. - The members of the staff of the Rare Buddhist Texts Research Project deserve our full admiration for their keen interest and great perseverance in preparing a critical edition of such an abstruse text as the present one. Special thanks are due to Prof. Vrajavallabh Dwivedi, the erstwhile Deputy Director of the project, Pt.
