Neela wanted to get up from the trolley seat to select her own cheese, but Abhaybahai gave her a packet to hold and put in the trolley. Ajay read the label which said "vegetarian cheese".
"Mummy, what does this mean?" asked Ajay.
Karunaben said, "Cheese has a thing called rennet in it to make it go hard. Most rennet comes from the stomachs of dead cows. We do not believe in killing animals, so we buy 'vegetarian cheese', which has rennet made from vegetables."
Karunaben quickly bought a few other items. The trolley was now getting heavy for Ajay so Abhaybhai began to push it.
The last item on the list was "drinks". Abhaybhai picked up a few cartons of fruit juice, and some bottled water. Ajay saw a nice looking green bottle and asked if they could buy this. Abhaybhai said, "That is wine, Ajay. We do not drink any wine, spirits or beer. But we can drink this." He picked up a green bottle of apple juice, and gave it to Ajay to put in the trolley.
Then they arrived at the checkout counter. Abhaybhai paid money to the lady for the shopping. They soon reached home.
Ajay was very happy and asked, "Mummy, can I go shopping alone next time? I promise I'll only buy pure vegetarian food and drinks."
Karunaben said, "All in good time, Ajay".
