________________ fiapo.org INVESTIGATION RESULTS A total of 49 dairies were visited in four cities of Rajasthan where an approximate of 1382 cattle were being used for the purpose of milk production. In all these urban and smallholder dairies visited, violations of various aspects of animal welfare standards were noticed and the relevant evidences collected. These violations were considered on the basis of the existing laws and also the possible areas where improvement in these laws is required. The violations have been tabulated as follows: Key observations and violations collated from all dairies in Rajasthan: VIOLATIONS OBSERVATIONS A. Housing Animals tied on extremely short leashes for extended time periods without exercise Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960- Chapter 3. section 11 If any person-1 (f) keeps for an unreasonable time any animal chained or tethered upon an unreasonably short or unreasonably heavy chain or cord Large numbers of calves and old animals kept in small rooms with inadequate space for movement Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960- Chapter 3, section 11 If any person-1 (e) keeps or confines any animal in any-cage or other receptacle which does not measure sufficiently in height, length and breadth to permit the animal a reasonable opportunity for movement Flooring mainly made of cement leading to wounds and bruises, in many cases fractures occurred due to the floor becoming slippery because of irregular cleaning of excreta Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960- Chapter 3, section 11 If any person- 1 (h) being the owner of lany animal) fails to provide such animal with sufficient food, drink or shelter;
