Calves were also not allowed to have their mother's milk and chained the whole day
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules, 2001: Animals not to be slaughtered except in recognised or licensed houses - (1) No person shall slaughter any animal within a municipal area except in a slaughter house recognised or licensed by the concerned authority empowered under the law for the time being in force to do so. (2) No animal which - Gi) is pregnant, or (ii) has an offspring less than three months old, or (iiilis under the age of three months or (iv) has not been certified by a veterinary doctor that it is in a fit condition to be slaughtered.
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960- Chapter 3, section 11 If any person- 1 (a) beats, kicks, over-rides, over-drives, over-loads, tortures or otherwise treats any animal so as to subject it to unnecessary pain or suffering or causes, or being the owner permits, any animal to be so treated;
Old and sick cows are left untreated to die. They are sold dead or alive to slaughter houses.
