________________ 19 Dharana then asked the king to get the blocks broken and see inside. The blocks were broken and Dharana's name was found on the blocks. Suvadana was immediately sentenced to death but was saved through the intercession of kind-hearted :Dharana. Laxmi was banished. (P. 53. I. 3. ) Ths king then asked Dharana to take charge of his property. The king sent his officers along with him. The property was duly taken by Dharana. Dharana offered Suvadana to take as much gold as he wished; for he had considered his life of greater value than the gold worth a lac he offered him, when he took him with his property on the ship. Suvadana felt ashamed. Dharana gave him gold worth eight lacs. After settling his affairs, he went to Toppa. (P.53. I. 18.) After taking his meals with Toppa, he asked Toppa to give him three promises. Toppa agreed. With the first promise, he asked Toppa's treasurer to return him his jewels, which the treasurer did.
