PREFACE
This Second Volume of Nemināhacariya contains the rest of the text of the poem. Verses 1930 to 3310 give an account of the ninth bhava of Naminātha. It is interwoven with the biography of Vasudeva as also of Kıšņa, Balabhadra and Jarāsandha, who together constitute the ninth trio of Vasudeva, Baladeva and Prati-Vāsudeva. The works dealing with these subjects are known as Harivamśa in the Jain tradition.
Verses 3311 to 3338, making up the concluding prasasti of the work tell us about its author, .time, place and the circumstances under which it was composed. As the Neminahacariya was composed at the request of Prthvipāla, a minister of Jayasimha and Kumārpāla, the well-known Chaulu. kya kings of Gujarat, the prašasti gives at some length information about his illustrious forebears and their relations with the then reigning kings of Gujarat. Thus it possesses a unique historical importance. With the publi. cation of this volume the complete text of the Neminahacariya has been made available. The remaining Third Volume will be devoted mainly to the study of a few aspects of the poem from textual and historical viewpoints.
