ABBREVIATIONS USED
Out of the three figures following ( which is an abbreviation of the word H413707 ) at the top of the right hand page, the first figure shows the number of the chapter ( 357 ) of grammar, the second figure shows the quarter (979) of the chapter and the last figure shows the number of the last Sūtra quoted or illustrated on the page. For example : [ c. 9. 99. ] on page 7 means that the last Sūtra quoted at the end of the page is the eleventh in the first quarter of the eighth chapter. In the commentary the number of the Sūtra quoted for illustration is shown by the single figure in brackets following that Sūtra; other Sūtras are shown by two figures in brackets: the first showing the quarter, and the second, the number of that Sūtra. For example: irt“ 379 99TH " [9] on page 4., in line 23, the figure [ 9 ] shows the number
of the Sūtra “ 379 TIBH ;” and on page 5 in line : 20, the quarter and number of the Sūtra referred
to in the word alleaiz are shown respectively by
the figures 9 and 2€ in brackets, thus:-[ 9.78 ). III. The examples regularly intended for the illustra.. tion of Sūtras, occurring in the verses and the
grammatical portion of the commentary given in smaller type, are underlined; e. g., atais on page
5., in lines 1, and 20. IV. Where a prosodially long vowel is intended to be
