P. 76, 1. 32. After who,' insert lived in Çankhapura and.' The Sanskrit text has Cankhapuravásiní.9 The maiden is here throughout called Maira,' while her name was Maillá' in the former story (p. 71, 1. 30).
P. 77. Omit the last phrase in the bottom line, and read at the top of p. 78 as follows : Also those two (friends) had come (with their wives to listen to the iord) on his arrivallo (in the garden of Gajapura). The Jina showed them to King Kurucandra, (saying) that all five ...
P. 78*. By the preceding correction everything is in order. The curious dependence of the king on his four fellow-creatures is explained by their collective offering made to a hermit in a former life.
Pp. 78, f. The introduction to the story of Dhanya is found in an Avaçyaka tale.
P. 85, 11. 17-20. This is a cloka in the Sanskrit text. It ought to be printed accordingly.
P. 116, 11. 18 and 21. Read Chandrayacá. This form is clearly indicated at the second passage, Chandrayaçá-samipe. It is certainly not good Sanskrit, but common in works drawn from Prákrit sources. See also the Prakritic form Sujasá' (p. 169, 1. 32).
P. 116, 11. 15, 17, 19, 26, 34. Read Gangă datta and Gangåsená throughout.
P. 116 t. You' is quite right, as Gangasená is simply the former existence of Rishidattá, and therefore the same person.
P. 117 *. Read of the lord of the Içána" (Kalpa). The İçána (Kalpa) is the second Kalpa. Other Kalpas are named in other parts of the Kathákoça.'
P. 117, 1. 14. 'Read Bhadrayaça for °ças.
Pp. 117-123. The story of Metárya is borrowed from the Ávaçyaka tales; it is found in the comments on Avaçyaka-piry., viii. 182, 2. A Sanskrit version will also be found in Merutunga's • Mahápurushacharita,' iv. (Weber's Catalogue, ii., p. 1026, 1. 32), and elsewhere.
P. 122 t. Correct this according to the note on p. 36 *. P. 123 *. Bendall's MS. has pácara, like the MS. B.
P. 123 t. Add : It should be printed as a verse, for it is an áryá in the original.
P. 132 t. Bendall's MS. has: Manjushå-dváráni maiņasáritáni.
P. 185 +. Bendall's MS. has: Ekákinyau ávám bibhyatah atas tvayá tvaritam iti kathayitvá gato rákshasah. The other MSS. will probably help to restore the correct reading. [C has agamtavy am after tvaritam, so has my text. Both have bibhyatah.--0. H. T.
P. 140, 11. 4, f. Read : 'A man ought to go to whichever place, or to carry out whatever design; excelling then by merits, he will obtain joys like ... Compare the similar Gáthá on p. 189, II. 33-36. This is the exact rendering. At any rate, the first line seems to have :
Vaccatu jattha vi tattha vi jam vá tam vá karetu varasáyam. [Chab : Vaccau jattha vi tattha vi jam vá tam vá kareviu vavasáyam
