________________ 148 VRATAS long life; he will have a good name, handsome features, and a youth-time that would be enjoyable. The results of killing would be the opposite of these things, such as lameness, some incurable disease, seperation from friends, and relations, sorrow, short life, misery, and after that an incarnation in the low state [ngraka]. It is the Jain idea that kings, emperors, rulers, queens, etc., go to the Daraka state after this life, as a general rule, of course there may be exceptions. The reason is that during their life they igoore the rights of others to such an extent. Just incidentally mentioned bere-it is the mohaniya karmas which cover up the heart. The heart is covered up by the mohaniya karmas. SECOND VRATA. It is called in Sanskrit Sthula-mrishavadaviramana vrata. Vada means telling; mrisha means falsehood. The Vow therefore means the resolution tɔ refrain from telling gross falsehoods. Sthula or gross falsehoods are those in wbich there is an evil iotention ani a knowledge that the statement is false.
