In 2005, a new temple has been dedicated to Sambhava (the 3rd Tirthankara), 66 Chettipatti, ruins of an ancient Jain temple with a statue of Mahāvīra and a beautifully sculpted head of Pārsva, Chitaral (Tiruccranattumalai), an ancient Jain centre, chapels and ruins of temples, dating from the IXth century, with statues of Pārśva, Mahāvīra and Ambikā, Chittamur, in South Arcot, 10 kms from Gingee, seat of a Bhaṭṭāraka, an important Digambara centre with a monastery. Here, one can admire two renovated temples respectively dedicated to Malli and to Pārsva, Ennayaramalai, at South-East of Gingee, Jain caves with inscriptions on the walls, Eruvadi, statues of Adinatha and Mahāvīra cut in the rock, Gingee, at the end of Jaina Street, an old Jain temple still in use today, with numerous statues of Jina in stone and in metal, Jinakanchi, 4 kms from Kanchipuram, two ancient Jain temples, surrounded by high walls, with a "mandapa" dating from the XIVth century, and a renovated one. There are also two lovely statues of Mahāvīra and Candraprabha and nice paintings on the lives of several Tīrthankara. This place was the seat of a Digambara monastic order, Jingiri, a hill near Tirunarunkondai, various cave-temples, an ancient Digambara temple with beautiful towers and statues of Pārsva and Candraprabha, Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
