Vow of limiting one's sphere of activity: By this vow a laymen is enjoined to determine the boundaries of the spheres of his activities in all the ten directions (north, east, west, and south; north-east, north-west, south-west and south east, and up above in the sky and down below the earth level ) and he is not to go beyond them in any event and is to confine himself within these limits. VII. Vow of limiting of the articles used for consumption and enjoyment : A layman. ought to put a limit to articles he has to use as for example he should take a vow to this effect: "In the course of the day, I shall not use more than a certain number of articles for myself." For this vow, fourteen types of rules are laid down by the scriptures. One should not indulge into sinful acts and particularly those acts which involve himsa (violence or injury) should be shunned. VIII. Vow of abstent from futile acts of aimless indulgence : One should not meditate or think of evil
