________________ 160 JAIN JOURNAL SCENE 2 [The Sakhis, the female companions, of princess Rajimati are singing and dancing in the palace) To our doors the spring has arrivedIts invitation is written In the Asoka and the Kimsuka flowers, That the forest here and regions afar Have derived. Awakes the flower Madhumalati, Awakes the flower Madhavika, The heart feels the rhyme In the nectarsome spring revived. O ye, arrange the welcome-tray. with the garland woven of flowers that bloom and spray, We shall have to welcome the traveller Who will stand before our doors today. (With two female companions Rajimati comes. Rajimati dances and sings] Rajimati : Dear friends, Bedeck me with ornaments of flowers, Entwine my fragrant hair And bind strings of blossoms around my heaped bun, Hang on my arms The smiling Mallika, Care to attach Siris to my ear-lobes, On my girdle Attach the Nilmani flowers That resemble the sapohire blue And redden my feet With scarlet fluid Never adequate for the desire.
