I visited India in January of this year and represented JAINA at the Bidada Medical Camp, Vardhmananagar and at the functions organized by Jain Social Group, Samanvay Dhyam Sadhana Kendra and Mahavir Jain Vidyalaya alumni. I am pleased to inform you that JAINA is getting a lot of recognition in India for its efforts in uniting Jains together and providing humanitarian/educational/social/ religious services to people in India. We have indeed become a showcase of unity and a role model of compassion! The medical camps, educational books, earthquake relief activities, and supply of medical equipment have indeed generated a lot of publicity for JAINA in India. In fact, it has opened up new doors for us to join hands with like-minded people from well-known organizations such as WJC, Jain Social Group, Veerayatan and others and to open up new frontiers. I would like to thank Vijay Chheda, Dr.Dhiraj Shah, Dr. Manibhai Mehta, Jain Center of Southern California, Ramesh P Shah, Pravin K Shah, and the doctors and volunteers for making this happen. Several good things are emerging at the domestic front since we restructured our committees in Oct, 2003. Let me recap some of them: 1. JAINA Executive Committee has decided to hold the 2005 Convention in Santa Clara, California. We would like to thank the Jain Center of Northern California for agreeing to host it. Kirit Daftary, Convener, 2005 Convention, will keep you informed. 2. Patron Program has generated over $65,000 already. We are thankful to Mr. Udai Jain for his efforts in driving this program. 3. Senior Housing Project Survey has given us a green signal to keep it going. Dr. Bipin Parikh and his committee members are very excited with the response. 4. Your executive committee has screened the list of potential constitutional changes. Dr. Manibhai Mehta and his associates will start working on this project soon. Membership guidelines are almost done. Kamlesh Shah will finalize them soon. Girish Shah has come up with a lot of ideas to revamp our website. You will see many changes in the website before too long. Our goal is make it more appealing and useful to meeting your needs. 7. Interfaith Committee is extremely busy preparing for the participation in the conference organized by the World Parliament of Religions. JAINA delegation, including people from UK and India, could well exceed 30 people! 5. 6. I believe we have made an excellent start but I also realize that we have a long way to go. If you feel that JAINA is doing a good job for you, please support it financially through our Patron Program. Remember financially healthy JAINA can do wonders for the entire community! With Warmest Personal Regards, Comp. Voron Anop R. Vora, President Cover: Photos of Bidada Madical Camp 2004 For Private & Personal Use Only JAIN DIGEST⚫ Spring 2004/1 www.jainelibrary.org
