________________ UPDATE ON 2001 JAINA CONVENTION The Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago (JSMC) has agreed to host the 11th Biennial JAINA Convention in Chicago. JAINA and JMSC are actively engaged in finalizing the agreement on the JAINA Convention Guidelines that will be followed in organizing and managing the upcoming Convention. At the invitation of the JSMC, JAINA Executive Committee will meet on March 18, 2000 in Chicago. The appointment of JAINA Convention Board comprising of representatives of JAINA and JSMC will be finalized at this meeting. JSMC will present its plan for the Convention that will include among other things selection of site for the convention. JAINA Executive Committee intends to visit the proposed Convention sites with a view to finalizes the selection. JAINA Executive Committee, along with the JSMC and invited guests, will discuss the ideas to develop the theme of the 2001 Convention. All programs such as religious discourses, seminars, cultural programs and youth oriented programs will be organized around the selected central theme of the Convention. Jain Community of North America can participate in developing the theme of the Convention by forwarding ideas to the JAINA Headquarters, by Fax or E-mail. Vinay K. Vakani Secretary, JAINA Bipin D.
