The theme of this year's convention is Four Days Journey Into The Self. This is a reflection of YJA's commitment to provide an educational forum for discussion regarding the importance and application of Jainism while living in a contemporary society. The high standards set forth by past conventions in Chicago, San Francisco and Houston continue to serve as a guideline for the upcoming one. The LACC hopes to organize a conference that is not only fun and educational, but also gives the attendees, especially older youth, an opportunity to engage in events not normally found at a YJA conference. For example, we are currently researching the possibility of doing community service at local organizations and dance lessons in salsa and swing. Since YJA wants to facilitate attendance at the convention for as many youth as possible, fees were kept to a minimum. In fact YJA is subsidizing $125 for every youth attending the convention. In addition, we have expanded the convention capacity from 700 to 800, which brings our overall budget to well over a quarter of a million dollars. In order to make this a successful event, our target fundraising goal is $100,000. As you can see, it is clear that the execution and success of this convention depends on the support of the Jain community. Thus, we are asking you, our Jain community friends and pro-youth supporters, for a $150 donation to support YJA. We trust that you would like the youth to have continued educational opportunities, such as this convention, to extend our Jain heritage into the future. As a sign of our appreciation, we will acknowledge your support with an acknowledgement in the 2000 Convention souvenir edition of Young Minds. Please keep in mind that this is only a suggested amount. We will sincerely appreciate any donation that you are able to make. All donations are tax-deductible. Please make your check payable to YJA Convention 2000 and send it to, YJA Convention 2000 650 N. Rose Drive #174, Placentia, CA 92870 We encourage youth of all ages (14-29) to participate in the conference in any way possible. If you, or someone you know, is a creative person with graphical expertise, willing to write an article for the souvenir book, interested in moderating a discussion, participating in a debate, or would like to assist with general convention activities, please send an email to chairs 2000@egroups.com. Thank You! Shubhra Jain and Naishadh Shah Co-Chairs Young Jains of America (YJA) is the umbrella youth organization of the Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA).
