________________ the various subcommittees, the focus of the meeting was to help formulate a program for the upcoming 9th JAINA Convention which will be held July 4-6, 1997, in Toronto, Canada. In a townhall-type meeting held in February, 1997 members had an opportunity to meet the JAINA Executive Committee members and ask questions about the JAINA's activities and the upcoming convention. It is actively supported by the member families who enthusiastically participate in all the activi- ties. Recently Samaniji Mudit Pragyaji and Samaniji Malli Pragyaji visited the center in January, 1997. Their visit was very ben- eficial for the everyone. They delivered pravachan everyday 7:00 to 9:00 PM Yoga classes were organized with about 100 members attending these sessions. There are plans to keep the center open everyday. A variety of cultural, social, religious, and spiritual activities were scheduled over the three days. All the participants had an excellent and memorable time. A variety of programs were organized throughout the year which included Mahavir Jayanti, Paryushan Parva, Daslakshana Parva, Samwatsari and Mahavir Nirvana, in addition to monthly bhavna, regu larly scheduled youth classes, prekshadhyan classes, and Namokar Mantra Jap. Several eminent leaders and scholars visited the center and included Jin Chandraji Maharaj, Mahasati Chandanaji Bhattarakji, Shekhar Chand Jain, Pundit Dhirajlal Shah, Sudhaben Sheth, Pravin Doshi, and Saman Shrutpragna and Saman Ashwinipragna. A site for the Jain Bhawan is being acquired in the city of Milpitas which is located about 50 miles south of San Francisco between Fremont and San Jose. The plan is to construct a temple and a community center approximately 17,000 square feet. The temple complex will include an all-sect temple, a Sadguru Bhakti Room and several meditation rooms and a community center which will include a large auditorium, kitchen, dining room, library, audio-video room, classrooms, visitor rooms, and offices Construction is scheduled to begin in April, 1997 with a cost estimated to be $3,000,000 of which approximately $1,300,000 has been raised so far. The fund raising activities were begun July, 1996 with an inspiring sermon from Jin Chandraji Maharaj. Support is needed from all the friends living in the San Francisco Bay Area and living outside the Bay area to help us build a beautiful Jain Bhawan. The society has adopted a new constitution and has submitted an application to incorpo The Jain Center of Northern California The highlight of the year was an ex- tremely successful Young Jains of America (YJA) Convention organized from July 4 - 7, 1996. More than 600 young people participated. The event was hosted and organized by the young people from North- ern California in cooperation with the national YJA committee. Gurudev Chitrabhanuji provided the inspirational strength for the convention.
