LESSON OF UTTARADHYAYAN SUTRA
O long live Jambusvami! I (Sudharma) have heard the following discourse from the Lord Mahavir. (The spiritual teacher explains and pupil asks more questions for clarification. Selected questions and their answers are given below).
Q. 1. O reverend teacher! What does a man achieve by the desire for
salvation? A. 1. By the desire for salvation a man achieves faith in religion. Q. 2. O reverend teacher! What does he achieve by disregard of
worldly pleasures? 2. By disregard .... he feels disgust for worldly pleasures.
...... and by faith? 3. He develops a feeling of detachment. Q. 4. ...... and by serving? A. 4. he achieves politeness. Q. 5. ... and by confession of sins? A. 5. He gets rid of all obstacles (i.e. deceit, wrong judgement and
