________________ THE TRUTH 11 (2) In the sense of a genus or species or class, as in the statement 'the soul is divine.' The whole class is referred to here and not any particular individual. (3) With reference to a particular individual, e.g., Ram Prasad is very clever. (4) With reference to the form as distinguished from the substance of a thing. The house has been destroyed. Here it is obvious that the material of the house has not been destroyed, only its form has perish ed. (5) In the grammatical sense, where the signi ficancy can be ascertained by a reference to the rules of grammar and a lexicon, as for instance in the statement The Sun rises in the East.' Here the word 'Sun' is used in its ordinary sense. (6) In an allegorical or special sense, e.g., "(The) Sun is the leader of the gods.' Here (the) Sun is a symbol of omniscience, and 'gods' stand for the divine attributes of a pure Soul. (7) With reference to one's occupation, as in the statement · May I call a doctor?'
